It took years, years, for the University of Michigan to classify me as an in-state student. My recollection is hazy, but it might have finally classified me as such after I graduated.

The state can eliminate all the kvetching by simply abolishing in-state tuition.

in looking through these issues last Spring i could not help but notice that state funding is getting mighty thin for even the top state schools.

A lot of the state involvement goes no further than operating and repairing the buildings with all the academic costs being offloaded on the tuition paying students. It looks like foreign and out of state students paying out of state tuition are subsidizing instate qualifying students.

Speaking of college towns, I hope everyone noticed the lack of college students at the Capitol in Lansing this week.

MSU is considerably more conservative than UofM.
