Help with hotel in Baltimore (Personal).

Posted on 12/14/2012 2:39:43 PM PST by FroggyTheGremlim

I'll be traveling to Baltimore next week with my wife. Can anyone please recommend a safe hotel somewhere near Cromwell Street?

If there are no safe areas near there, can someone recommend a hotel out of town or in the suburbs?

Thanks.

Well known, but adapted by Norman Lear, so it cannot be considered safe.

There are several in Linthicum right next to BWI (295 and W nursery Rd), looks to be a few miles from where you want to go. I would recommend the Embassy Suites there as the rates are reasonable and they serve a good free breakfast and two free beers/wine plus happy hour snacks. Also, if you are going to downtown Baltimore DO NOT go more than a block away from the harbor tourist area.

... and if you stay at the Embassy Suites in the Linthicum area, be sure to stop at G&M Restaurant (804 Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum Heights) for lunch or dinner. Some of the best seafood dishes in the state and you won’t pay tourist prices like at the Inner Harbor.

The Inner Harbor is a wonderful place, very pretty, especially this time of year. LOTS to see and do. Check out the Constellation and other ships, Aquarium, and Science Museum. Take a Harbor cruise. Any of the hotels within a couple blocks of the Inner Harbor are fine.

You can take a water taxi to Fells Point, Little Italy (great restaurants) or Ft McHenry

Just stick around other tourists and you’ll be fine, like any big city. There will be thousands of people there for the holiday scenes and events

There’s a nice Days Inn about 15 from Johns Hopkins Hospital (the one on the eastern side of the city). My mom had hip replacement surgery at JH and we stayed there 2 or 3 nights. Protected parking and not too bad an area. Hope this helps.

I live on the eastern shore and would never go to the Inner harbor after dark. We go by boat and stay in one of the marinas. When it gets Dark, we don’t go out!

I used to live there. I know!

When I was young and lived in Maryland, the Harbor area was all fixed up and supposed to be safe from Baltimore’s ravishing ghetto criminals. It was not. So...watch out.

Keep in mind that Baltimore simply is NOT a safe city, unlike New York today. That is a decision made by the residents of the city and the people they have elected to run the city. Back in the 70s/80s New York also wasn’t safe...but yes, if you went there only once in a great while - , the chances are that you’d make it out safely...as long as you are careful and understand that if you are alone, you are fair game to the roving bands of underprivileged youths...and there is NOT a damn thing police or anyone will do to help you.

About 12 hours ago, a tiny little town called Newtown, Conn. was considered “safe”.

In 2008, when I went to CPAC, I stayed at the Motel 6 in Linthicum Heights and was quite satisfied. A hotel in the immediate vicinity of the harbor would also likely be safe.

What's that, "Hot l Baltimore"?

I tried watching it once. A guy in HS had lived in Baltimore area, so he kept bringing it up at lunch all the time.

Cromwell is over by Locust Point so you got good advice when told to stay at that Embassy Suites off of Nursery Road in Linthicum. Inner Harbor has only two hotels worth staying in, but then you have to want to be at the Inner Harbor to see the sights. If you have the time, be sure to get out to Ft. McHenry (close to Cromwell). You won't be disappointed.

Someone mentioned G&M Restaurant. It's just around the corner from the Embassy Suites. Gotta go there. Wait in line if you have to. They have the biggest and best crab cakes you will find, and the prices are so damned reasonable you'll wonder how they do it. Good Md. crab soup too. Crab cakes, shrimp salad and crab soup are the only redeeming qualities to be found in the greater Baltimore area these days.

I live a bit northeast of Baltimore.

I enter the city limits to:
(1) See the Ravens play. (once in the last 10 years).
(2) Pass through on I-95 to points south.
(3) See my arthritis Doc at Good Samaritan twice a year.

Not a good town.
