The chamber adapter is a very good idea! I made one back in the 70’s to shoot 32 S&W longs out of a Enfield .303 but have not thought about them much since then.

If I remember correctly, they were using a Colt Delta Elite which was a reworked 45 gov model. It was too hot for the smaller (female) agents and they had problems with durability of the weapon. It was designed for a 45 acp and the frame would crack over time. To solve this, they ordered low power 10mm ammo.
The .40sw was designed to match the balistics of the low power 10mm round.
I think they eventually developed some pistols especially designed for the 10mm that corrected the durability issue but by then the .40sw had taken over the market.
Wife’s cousin has a 10 MM.
He’s keeping it cleaned and put away as a future museum piece.

I agree completely. A crossbow rather than a recurved bow would be easier for the average person.
Single shots are easily repaired. Semis and double actions have too many moving parts and would require the ministrations of a gunsmith to repair. Which would be extremely expensive in a SHTF scenario. And expensive comes in many different forms.
