You’d think ole “Ari” might have been peering through some sort of cosmic window into modern day America some 2300 years ago with comments such as those above.
There’s another way to look at it, as well. One can grudgingly admit that the Greeks, of 2300 years ago, were smarter than modern Americans. In my estimation—you’d be right. So, I tend to go with the latter explanation.
See, America is building a head of steam preparing to go to war with itself a second time at this very moment. This is not unusual—not in America. We have already had two revolutions. You may recall the American Revolution against Great Britain and the second—the War for Southern Independence, often erroneously referred to as the American Civil War, or the War Between the States.

Or a blackout to one of our major inner cities during the summer that last a few days. A Hurricane like Sandy won't do it because of the shell shock, but if you have a run of the mill blackout due to a transformer blowing somewhere, the riots will begin right after the sun goes down and they won't stop and they will spread.But I for one think it's great that city Liberals will turn on each other first and burn their own cities down, while rural Conservatives can just pass the popcorn and wait it out.
Let me make this absolutely clear - I AM NOT ENCOURAGING THE FOLLOWING ACTION - but what if some group started taking it upon themselves to knock power out to some major cities? Nothing highly technical - I hear that knocking out just a couple of substations at just the right time could cut off power to a very large area. WE SHOULD NOT DO THIS!!! I am just wondering what would be the reaction if a group tossed weighted wires into substations in major cities around the country all at once. Riots, certainly, but what would happen after?

Not so fast Longstreet! What is more likely to happen is that collectives of citizens will use their guns to defend themselves, their families and their properties against ravaging leftist mobs seeking food, drink,oil and gas, and who have lost their entitlements, their government handouts.
( We can no longer afford them... a fact that Obama is bringing about with a will, he has no interest in preserving entitlements, he seeks to destroy the sources of their funding).
When a few of these leftist mobs are decimated by accurate gun fire from ordinary citizens who protect themselves, it is then that you will see DHS intervene to prevent the exercise of self defence by US citizens.
It is then that you will see an ignition point, and the government will loose that battle.
To the Victors go the Republic, who will rebuild an America that follows the present constitution rather than ignoring it, twisting it, or simply illegally breaking it.
Your hypothetical aim might be accomplished quicker and with less collateral damage by hackers taking down the EBT card systems. :)

I'm not sure the US government was directly responsible for the Sep 11 incidents -- but I do believe they used it for nefarious purposes. The obvious one is to increase state power, the 'conspiracy theory' one has to do with a news report a few days earlier that told of massive monies missing -- the financial records of which happened to be stored in one of the buildings destroyed.
I think there have been times in our history when those in power intentionally ignored threats to this nation to advance their agenda. I think it is less machination and more intentional neglect.
