I think the civil war starts this way:
It’s a snowy morning, and you have to clear your driveway in the dark before you can drive to work, through the snow. Your neighbor is not out clearing the driveway. He is a retired government employee on a government pension, and wintering in Florida. You work in the private sector or have your own business, and your 401k hasn’t performed well, and you have to work, and pay taxes so that your neighbor can get his pension checks.
Later, you slip and slide on dark, snowy streets after a hard day at work. You check you mail. There is a post card from your neighbor in Florida. The opening shot in the civil war is the iceball you throw through his window.
The Civil War is already over.
WE LOST....
ON FX, right now, I’ve watched two wildly popular movies from the last several years, “XXX” and “Machete”.
In one, the bad guy is a CONSERVATIVE politician that hates the ideas of a generous government, and solving the world’s problems.
In the other, the bad guys are CONSERVATIVES against illegal immigration, while CONSERVATIVE pols are making tons of money from the illegal drug trade.
What most folks on FR don’t realize is that we LOST the Civil War already, a generation ago, and it is CLEARLY reflected in the popular media culture, which reinforce those memes and images, over and over again, to a pliant sheeple.
Class warfare from the right? I’m a retired Federal employee who worked his ass off to earn that pension. I worked, testing and developing weapons and explosives, and even counter measures to foreign weapons and explosives, risking life and limb every time we made a shot. You lump every tax paying employee, including retired military of abusing the system. You’re no better than zero with your class warfare.
No reason for 401k not to perform well over time.
