Stockman was a backstabbing liar.
Three people in DC believed in Ron—Ron, Nancy and I forget the other one.
Get it.

By the time Reagan was President, he sometimes showed signs of enjoying the over the top reactions and animosity of his critics. Here are two stories.

Once, Reagan, on his birthday, went to the White House press center and cut and served cake to astonished and charmed reporters. Sam Donaldson though jibbed at Reagan by saying, "Mr. President, I hope that you do not think that you can buy us with a slice of cake!" Reagan, without missing a beat, replied, "Oh Sam, I know that you can be bought for a lot less." This provoked a red face from Donaldson and knowing chuckles from his colleagues.

And during a visit to Spain at the height of Leftist anti-nuclear agitation -- which the Soviet Union secretly financed -- the hotel that Reagan was staying at was the target of a large and intense demonstration.

One of Reagan's aides arrived in his room to prep him for a dinner engagement. Reagan was chatting with Nancy and still half-dressed, having just gotten out of the shower.

The aide mentioned the demonstration and that the crowd had a papier mache figure of Reagan that they were preparing to burn. Reagan chuckled and went out on the balcony to catch a glimpse, even calling Nancy to come out and watch.

And so, the President of the United States and his wife and a single aide -- without the Secret Service being present or knowing -- stood on a hotel room balcony critiquing the demonstration against him. The crowd, looking to the front of the hotel, never realized that the target of their anger was out in the open, watching them from a wing of the hotel.
