I like my “Kerssaw Leek”. It’s lightweight sharp and fast opening. In black it matches my Ruger LCR perfectly and is just as reliable.
I guess I should take this opportunity to warm fellow freepers to not make the same mistake I did.
I regularly buy things from Amazon and basically have had no problems. I noticed some pretty good looking knives for sale. They were very large ones and I have always sort of liked those big heavy Bowie style knives. The prices were really cheap so I ordered a couple.
They arrived quickly and in fact looked just as good as the pictures indicated. I noticed they were not very sharp so began to put a good edge on them.
It quickly became clear that the steel was pretty soft. I have not used them and they are probably worth what I paid but I would not recommend them to anyone.
BTW they both were made in Pakistan.

So as not to offend my young neighbors Parents (not that they would mind) I gave my lil buds Whetstones and Knife Sharpening Books, Rope, Line and Knot Tying Books for Christmas.
They come visit to show me the knots that they have learned and to show me how sharp their “Whittlin” knives are.
Now we are “Whittlin” Slingshots and Bows and Arrows out of stuff we can find right here in the neighborhood.

When I take my sons for walks in the woods, I stop at the tree line and have them show me their pocket knives. If they don’t have knives they have to go back to the house and get it.
You don’t go into the woods without at least a knife on you.
Cut your nails and then use the handy diamond file to smooth your nails.
That’s what use em for.
I’ve also used em for first aid and cutting dressings, though mostly I use a knife and cut em to size.

I never go anywhere without one, but these days the kids can’t take them to school so it isn’t natural for them to always have one.

Backpack, duffle bag or maxped gear slinger depending on what I need and where I’m going.
I made knives as a hobby during high school (mostly putting handles on purchased blades). My dad gave me his old White Hunter (with a broken tip). I removed the stag handles and replaced them with kingwood, then (like a stupid teenager), sold it. Fast forward twenty-odd years, one evening at a consignment auction house they put a couple of knives on the table, and one looked familiar...
I was able to buy that knife back, and it's now in my desk drawer, and never leaving my possession again! I saw one at a gun show last year- I, too was shocked at the price!

Was given a Advanced Combat Tactical Folder when active duty EOD. Robert “Bob” Terzoula, made it and gave it to me.... Mastadon Ivory slabs, awesome pocket knife. Like it so much I was afraid to carry it. Put it in the Gunsafe and there it sets with my BBQ gun and Rolex Submariner.
Now I carry a fixed blade Oxo Paring knife inside the waistband and a Swiss army Victorinox champion pocket knife and a Leatherman tool.
More function than fashion these days and I don’t mind leaving that Oxo kitchen knife stuck in my work.
The Swiss army champion has been my favorite carry pocket knife for more than 30 plus years. It and a Randall 14 were my deployment knives until Leatherman came out with his product. Those three served me till my retirement.
The real Swiss Victorinox Champion is the best pocket knife bargin IMO based on utility, construction, cost and ease of carry.
Ah it’s just a synonym for I’m a dummy for not thinking to look for a replacement toothpick.

Although I already advise anyone and everyone that even has the slightest desire to go to Mexico to “Not Go” if she does, make sure she leaves that little jewel at home. I spent 2 nights standing in the most hideous Mexican Jail for having Nail Clippers that had a file and a knife blade. (Almost 60 hrs without sitting down, no water, no food (I wouldn’t have ingested either had they been offered) the place was without a doubt the filthiest environment that I have ever set foot in and those that shared the space with me the worst human debris that I had encountered until I was deployed to the Middle East.
I am forever in debt to the Nuns that Bailed me out and I hope they still do the Good Works that they did back in the 70’s.

After reading the first 50 responses, I declare this post Knife-Porn and thank all who contributed. I have many of these knives and can even find some at a few minutes notice. Others look like they will be buys for the future. Way back when I was young, an acquaintance caught me sharpening my knife and reminded me why he was no more than an acquaintance by asking why I sharpened my knife! When I explained that there is nothing more dangerous than a dull knife, he snorted and moved away. He is, if still alive, an undoubted Obama voter!

Heh, I am not, though I have admired the character as a bit of a dark hero, I do confess.
I first learned of Spyderco and Lecter’s appreciation of those knives reading Hannibal by Thomas Harris.
It seemed he preferred the Harpy, but eventually aquired the Civillian in his travels. While the Civillian is an absolutely wicked looking blade, I think the slenderness of the tip limits its uses to only one thing, while the shape of the Harpy lends it to many uses, including self defense.
I have had two Harpies since that read. My first had a synthetic handle, but that one was stolen when my car was stolen in New Orleans. A criminal got that one, and I hope it was never put to any criminal use. I replaced that one with the stainless steel handle model, and have enjoyed that one ever since.
I agree that it is.
I think every good person should be well defended against bad persons. They are out there in great numbers, and they will always have the advantage of knowing whom they will attack and when. All any potential victim can do is prepare in advance.
My last resort weapon of self defense is the Spyderco Harpy. There are a few reasons why I think that this blade in particular can be an advatage when there is nothing else.
It’s very small, fits in the pocket nicely and takes little space. Because of its compact design, there is no danger that the blade will open and present a danger to your hand when you go to retrieve it.
The most dangerous blade is the one your opponent never saw and the one he never knew you had until it was too late. The smallness of the blade allows the opened knife to be concealed behind a single finger. The knife can also be opened completely silently if one depresses the spine lock while opening then lightly resist the lock as it slips silenty into place. That can be done with one hand only.
Lastly, the smallness of the blade does not reduce its deadliness. Because if its curved shape, it specializes in long pulling cuts. If one was to pull the blade firmly across the inner thigh, the inner upper arm or the side of the neck of any would be attacker, death would come quickly.
If the situation were very serious, one might try to attack all of those areas as quickly as one could.

I have been drooling over the above knife since I saw it on the season premiere of Dual Survival. Gorgeous fixed blade knife, incredibly expensive, but one day I may have to get one.
A man can’t have too many knives. LOL
