“isn’t a new development” - I’d be interested to know what were the past orders of ammunition by the government in the last 15 or 20 yrs.; that would clarify a lot and probably allay any possible panic thinking.

It's my understanding that FMJ ammo is for training. It's much cheaper to shoot.
My read on this is that the JHP ammo is for duty rounds.
“O sir, we should have fine times, indeed, if, to punish tyrants, it were only sufficient to assemble the people! Your arms, wherewith you could defend yourselves, are gone; and you have no longer an aristocratical, no longer a democratical spirit. Did you ever read of any revolution in a nation, brought about by the punishment of those in power, inflicted by those who had no power at all?” —Patrick Henry, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 1788
I would not be surprised if Biteme actually said that!

“Further, a huge chunk of that will get eaten up by re-qualification and training.”
No it won’t. All of this ammo is +p critical defense frangible rounds. You don’t use this type of ammo for practice. Its expensive, hard on the weapon and will wear down the backstops at the range. This is not ammo you use to re-qualify. Anybody who does practice with this stuff is going to develop a Hell of a flinch.
This ammo is prohibited internationally for war but its OK for them to use it on us. Ain’t Amerika great!
One thing I was thinking is that drones could be a big threat to anyone opposing the government if it did come to a civil war. It might be worth trying to figure out some countermeasures and have them ready just in case.
The Iranians have successfully brought at least one drone down via GPS spoofing, so that is one thing to look at. GPS signals are very weak, so even quite a low powered transmitter might be able to disrupt drone operations over quite a wide area.
Also, drones operate via a satellite link, so maybe there’s some way of jamming that, or of taking the satellites offline. In a civil war, bringing down the government communication network would certainly tip the odds a long way in your favour anyway.
Hopefully it never comes to that, but there seems to be a mass drift towards totalitarianism underway throughout the western world at the moment, and IMHO it’s a good idea to keep hoping for the best but start preparing for the worst just in case!
We who believe in the citizen's absolute right to be armed and equal haven't done anything concrete to illuminate and clarify our position and most of us have spent most of our time scrambling to buy those things that we know will be unavailble in a matter of days. We should be networking to discuss our options, solidifying our trusted relationships and mobilizing - to Washington DC - to show the "representatives" how many of us there are. Just waiting for the next crooked election cycle is not going to help us. I have called the NRA and GOA to try to get a rally started and maybe if some of the rest of you get on them too, maybe something will get done. Just waiting to see what happens never works out well.
