GM still makes decent trucks, but I wouldn't buy one just on principle. Your average GM car is ready for the junkyard at about 120K miles. Your average Honda is still on the road at double that.
I bought nothing but GM before 1991 and havent't bought one since.

Bought a brand new Ranger XLT in 1987 (V6, 5 speed). Put 135K miles on it (as an obnoxious 20-something) and it still wouldn’t die. Beat on it constantly. Sold it off out of further stupidity. Have had nothing as reliable, or fun, or practical, ever since.

My ‘99 has 252k on it right now. Still runs great. V6, auto. Wish it was standard and 4wd, but it works.
