I am a conservative in the Scottish enlightenment, founding fathers vein. To distinguish myself from Tory-ism, which has some value in its adherence to tradition, but in the end, as Herbert Spencer describes, is just another form of tyranny. An ideology for milquetoasts and an ideology with hatred for all things Republican, rooted in sympathy with the royalists and for the state church. I suppose a “Whig” would be the best description, but I also reject Libertarianism, with its roots in anarchism and a self defense ideology that would see the Republic destroyed. I probably would be most comfortable with William F Buckley.
