Los Angeles police are worried about being targeted at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, a former Los Angeles deputy police chief said today.
John Miller, now a senior correspondent at CBS News, said today that former LAPD officer Christopher Jordan Dorner has a plan that could include targeting a police command post at a major incident, such as the nationally- telecast Grammy broadcast at the Nokia Theater Sunday.
Speaking on the “CBS Morning News” today, Miller said he has talked with Los Angeles police and found them to “have an anxiety factor that is unbelievable.”
Miller said Dorner probably did not plan to abandon his truck, loaded with weapons, in Big Bear.
“The reason it was there was not because it was where he was going, he broke the axle,” Miller said on today’s broadcast.
“He probably left only the ammo he couldn’t carry,” the CBS News senior correspondent said. Miller, a former FBI assistant director, served as LAPD’s intelligence chief under then-chief William Bratton.
Dorner, Williams theorized, “may have a plan and “could circle back and attack the command post.”
“Look at the organic things that happen in los Angeles,” Miller said. “There will be the Grammys Sunday in Los Angeles, where you will have a major police command post....

It seems spectacularly stupid to me, for this guy to go on national tv and suggest targets for Dorner.

When Dornier took on the Riverside cops, he shot them in the face with very few shots when he attacked them. He knew they wore bullet proof vest thus the only way he can kill them was a shot to the face/head. One cop died and one was wounded. the cops have a lot to fear because they were never truly trained for combat where someone was out to hunt them down like our troops faced in Iraq and Afghanistan. To illustrated how spook they were, the LAPD actually shot up a blue pickup truck driven by two women in the early morning delivering newspapers as they approached a house guarded by cops. If they do not catch them the SoCal police are going to need special fed task force to hunt the man down. Rambo anyone?
The police are extremely nervous because this guy knows where all the skeleton are buried.
He know what they do, when they do it, how they do it, and now to avoid it. They are now playing his game and they do not know the rules. Right now he is in charge.
He might target the cops—not the stars and singers. What way to go out is by shooting up the place and die on national TV? Maybe screaming “Allah Akbar?” No he’s too clever for this—he will plan another way to get his revenge. City Hall? Watt’s Towers? MLK Hospital? Police HQ? He isn’t done with the LAPD.
They are scared because they've never been actively hunted by an urban terrorist. Not only has he targeted cops he blames, but families also. A very scary turn of events for people used to dishing it out but never having to take it.

The fatal flaw with your theory that this comically deranged Dorner psychopath is some kind of Jason Bourne, Rambo, Dirty Harry, and James Bond all rolled into one is that he’s never demonstrated any competency at anything he’s ever done in his entire life. He’s a former Navy officer who can’t even steal an old man’s putter boat without fouling the propeller in the docking line. This fool couldn’t even plan his next wank.
I think it’s time to consider the likely possibility that Dorner is a 290 pound frozen lump of dead meat covered in 14” of fresh snowfall right now.
My training tells me to assume the worst case scenario until it can be proved otherwise. Dorner knows police tactics and procedures, so it follows he knows exactly how they will react. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to design some simple false leads and dead ends to get the cops wasting time, manpower, and effort.
You DO realize that the police sent a protection team to protect his first victims, but he took them out and managed to kill the folks they were protecting - AND he got away.

Much more competent than the LAPD, who thus far managed to shoot up two pickup trucks which did not match the description of his - not even the same color.
This is the first I'm reading about a protection team. How did he take them out? Are they dead, wounded or just scared and they ran away?
I may be wrong, but, I don’t think this guy is the mythical being people think. He has vanished. Check the snowbanks,caves, ravines in the area around his truck. He probably already blew his brains out.
OTOH, he would need a plan to get back to civilization from the winter recreation area, and maybe an accomplice. If the photo of him holds true to his physical size, he will need food and water before too long.

I think that if any celebrities are shot the cops will be the shooters, just another case of mistaken identity and unfortunate collateral damage.

He has no qualms about killing bystanders if doing so hurts the cops. Clear from his manifesto. Ex.: He killed a cop’s daughter.
Now they are giving him ideas of where to attack.
They will beef up the Grammy’s and he will hit somewhere else.
My take, which is worth nothing, is that he is dead in the snow somewhere (inconvenient broken truck axle) or police should be checking the homes of any retired LAPD for bodies and missing vehicles, if he got out of the area where the truck broke down.

Given the Grammys are more diverse than the Oscars, if he is still alive, I would think the Oscars would be a better bet for the nut.

This is hilarious. How are us normal citizens supposed to handle the everyday criminals targeting us? One guy going after cops, and the entire department is ready to shoot up 71-year-old women, because they are so “anxious”.

Dorner has had years to plan this. If so, he likely has caches of supplies and safe houses and other hidden places to hold up all over Southern Cal. He has the cops running in circles. Dorner leaves his badge and briefcase at a local airport, Lindbergh Field, close to SD, and followed close by with another head fake by commandeering a ship at a local yacht club, which he fowls the prop with a rope.
He then breaks and axle and burns his truck (to draw fast attention) at Big Bear Lake with weapons and supplies in it to make it look good all the while making his fast escape out of the area. Fooled and in force, LE and the Feds spends days combing the local mountains and Bear city.
Dorner told the world what he was going to do and he’s running that play book.
