If we can't even cut federal spending by 2.4 percent without much of the country throwing an absolute hissy fit, then what hope does America have? All of this whining and crying about the sequester is absolutely disgraceful.

You keep posting these "happy happy joy joy" threads about the Sequester, when the first line of this drivel sounds like the drumbeat propaganda from Sean Hannity.

He does not seem to able to apply 4th grade math concepts.

It isn't 2.4% across the board - 62% of all mandatory entitlement spending is EXEMPT.

You know this because I have told you so.

It hits the military with a 13% cut in the middle of a fiscal year, and most of that cut has to come from Operations and Maintenance, which will be gutted.

Sequestration only touches 1/3 of our budget, which is discretionary spending.

Do you not fathom these facts, or are you just being disingenuous?

“...if our elected officials had to pay for that latte...”

They don’t, and neither do their constituents.

They’ve all brought themselves to the position of being brilliant, intellectual geniuses who are above the rest of humanity in their superiority, and everyone else has to pay for the honor of having them around.

Isnt’t it marvelous to have these beings dictating to everyone else? (Absolutely marvelous, darling.)

/S/

IMHO

The amount taken in and the amount going out are two different things now. A better statement would be despite the screaming about these cuts they still amount to less than 10% of the annual deficit. Even with the sequester we will still have a deficit that is higher than any President before Obama. The 2009 deficit liberals try to blame on Bush wasn’t voted on until Obama was in office, and included the disastrous stimulus waste for nothing.

There is enough blame to go around but I believe the group most responsible for allowing us to get into this condition are the members of the news media.

Our founding fathers gave they special protection in the Constitution with the understanding that they would be the last defense against a corrupt government.

However, instead of being watch dogs they have become lap dogs.

They no longer “report” or “investigate” stories, they promote what ever the socialist in government want, and demonize anyone that dares challenge them.

Since socialism can not possibly work, this house of cards they have built will eventually collapse. When that happens there is going to be turmoil and when that happens no will be able to predict the outcome. I somehow do not think they will enjoy this brave new world they have created.

Low-information voters in the “red” region would be exiled, forcibly if necessary, to one of the “blue” republics.

So. the 'solution' is a dictatorship? That's what's coming but there is no way to predict what life will be like for us.

Just wait until real cuts come.
The ones that will not reward you for having unwanted fatherless children, cutting back on foodstamps and medicare and medicaid. When the money runs out to pay unemployment what will people do? There will be cut backs in social security and obama phones will be a thing of the past.

This little cut is nothing.

It’s like I’ve been saying, Obama is just a symptom of the disease. It is the American voter that has gotten us into this predicament.

You have to wonder why they use the word, “sequestration,” instead of “budget cuts.”

A caller to the Mark Levin show pointed out that “sequester” means "kidnap" or "hijack" in Spanish. Food for thought.

I'm 69, Dufarge is... nevermind, but we're both on SS (legit, not SSI :O) ) and Medicare and we'd both gladly go for some kind of reform in both programs.

My opinion is this; they robbed SS for years, opened Pandora's Box when SSI, originally meant for minors robbed of a working parent through death or dismemberment, was degraded to the point where drunks, junkies and fat people with "anxieties" live the life of Riley on the taxpayers back.

W tried getting SS reform on the agenda, but iirc 911 intervened and by the time reform got near the table again the Rats had retrenched.

As for Medicare, imo it should never have come into existance.

I could go on a full blown rant here on GodGov omnicience, prescience and all around general wonderfulness but the preacher/choir thing reins me in.

All Of This Whining And Crying About The Sequester Shows Why America Is Doomed

Geez, the whining and crying is coming from a fraction of a few percent of the population and most of that fraction are Democrat news media types or Democrat politicians.

In their personal lives, every one of those elected officials ( with the exception of Hussein) knows that you start with LUXURIES when cutting back on expenses-not necessities. You don’t tell the kid they can’t have dinner so you can go to the Superbowl. So why aren’t these politicians cutting foreign aid and $ to the United Nations before cutting the pay of Joe Sixpack?? Would they rather enrage millions of American citizens before our enemies( who are perpetually outraged anyway?) If that’s what they want- they’ll get it. They are CHOOSING to hurt those at the bottom-and eventually Les Miserables will rise up.

Let everyone in Congress and the Senate work for a token amount-most are lawyers with lucrative careers anyway. Hell, let’em go on foodstamps, see how it feels! The fact is there is a large percentage of WORKING Americans who already know how to do a lot with very little-and do it every day. They will survive. It’s the instant gratification and government Iphone crowd that will suffer most. They can’t survive on potatoes and eggs, they HAVE to have steak and beer and satellite TV. This can only end one way...the way all totalitarian dictatorships do.

I’d feel disgraced by the Americans whining about these “cuts” but they already sucked what disgrace I had left out of me by putting that retard in the White House.

One of the biggest problems, in every country dealing with debt crisis, is that the fiscal situation ever got to the point of crisis in the first place. Hard decisions, belt tightening etc. needed to be done long ago, when it was easier to implement without having major impact on peoples lives. People adjust, but adjustment is much easier when done over time rather than overnight.

I'm quite sure there are loyal FReepers who believe in limited government, personal responsibility, and economic freedom who have been or are going to be affected by decreased government spending (e.g. government grants, medicare payments, decreased military salaries and/or benefits, loss of government contracts etc.). We all understand the necessity of doing these things, but when politicians, and those who vote for them, kick the can down the road incessantly, or use federal dollars to buy votes, they put us all in the position of ultimately having to deal with the inevitable financial issues in a ‘crisis’ situation. Just another example of irresponsibility.

Spoken like a true MORON. Free coffeemakers, where does that BS come from. We bought our own coffeemaker and coffee is $0.25/cup to pay for coffee and repairs to the coffeemaker. Okay this is a small point, but Idiots like you who don’t know the truth sound just like the rest of the low informed voters. As a 24yr DoD federal worker I for one am sick and tired of being the target of jealous, ignorant, uninformed, simple minded idiots at the end of a keyboard. Damned Right, CUT ENTITLEMENTS!! Starve the leaches and illegals, then we can talk cuts to the rest of teh budget.

The country is not whining and crying, the corrupt politicians are because there is nothing left to steal.

Sucks to be them...

All of this is drama is based solely on the fact that the political class let one of their schemes to bilk more money out of the people get out of control, and a few people in congress took it and ran with it. Obama whines and threatens, boehner cries crocodile tears, and the sleight of hand drama goes on and on. 85 billion is a drop in the bucket for the feds. This is all about control; a race to blame those who lost it, and a strategy on how to get it back.

Why thank you for informing me how your office is somehow different from every federal office I've ever visited. It's good to know that someone out there has just a tiny bit of responsibility. As your employer, I also greatly appreciate your gracious correction.

I agree.

However those that think like us conservatives are in the minority of our generation that spawned the likes of the Clintons and their followers and the current Obama senior administration advisors and officials that grew up in the 60s.

We are outnumbered by those millions of us in early baby boomer generation that grew up in the “Me” era and now want millions in the generations that have followed to pay for all of their excesses.

What concerns me is the inevitable blood-in-the-streets crisis. I have no doubt that very small group of determined communists have a plan in place to (attempt) to take power. I hope we have equally prepared patriots with plans in place to defeat them.

What really spelled doom for the country was the balance-shift of ‘takers’ overwhelming ‘makers.’ That, and America’s continued downward spiral into cultural degeneracy, as symbolized by the push for homo marriage. The country is a pathetic shadow of what it once was. The question for me has gradually been changing from ‘how’ to salvage the country to whether, at this point, there’s anything left of it even worth salvaging.

**
And it all comes down to these two things: uncontrolled immigration and demographics. They are getting in, and they are having babies, at an unsustainable rate. Americans are still having babies, but only as many as they can truly afford — unlike the immigrants, who have as many as they want and expect the State to take care of them.

THIS is it. THIS is what’s killing us, and what will finish us off in the end — in addition to the chain migration as well.

No cuts to Medicaid ..nosiree! Medicaid is going to BALLOON. Same thing in Europe. Everyone knows it, but no one talks about it or want to fight it in any way.
