Got Ammo?
Looking for a couple hundred rounds to go with that new handgun, shotgun or modern sporting rifle you just bought? Not only is ammo hard to find, it’s getting pricey. You might be hard pressed to find any at all.
If you’re a competition shooter, you might be downright worried. Those who compete in the action shooting sports are known to put quite a few rounds down range and these shortages are making for some real challenges for those who enjoy the shooting sports.
People are definitely talking about the ammo crisis. The Shooting Wire feature “Shortages Aren’t Limited to You and Me” addressed the issue, citing how even top trainers are making modifications to round count requirements and allowing students to use .22 caliber ammunition for classes. A pro shooter made a plea on Facebook that “…if you aren’t shooting regularly – PLEASE STOP HOARDING so the rest of us can!!” One major ammunition manufacturer issued an official statement titled “A World on Availability.” It has even hit mainstream media. A headline from USA Today read, “Gun dealers report shortages of ammunition.”
Is the bullet crisis due to the increase of hunters? Stockpiling fears over bans and taxes? That theory that the government is buying up all the ammo? American Rifleman’s Mark Keefe tackled the ongoing and fully loaded concern in his recent post “Where Has All the Ammo Gone?” Regardless of the reasons why, no bullets is a serious problem for gun owners. Method #1: Buy lots of ammo in the past, say, when zer0 was first elected. Because by that time, you knew it was coming. (So you might have already done it by then.)
Nothing worse than sitting on thousands of projectiles and primers and 16 lbs of powder and not being able to find brass anywhere. It’s available on gun broker but I’m feeling like the bidding is a bit fishy.
This country has a massive productive capacity fir ammunition. There should be plenty. I refuse the Govt bought it all. Where is it?
That’s why I bought brass whenever it was available cheap.
6 months ago, nobody could understand why I’d possibly need 3000 pieces of .308 brass and 5000 pieces of 5.56mm, 9MM and .45ACP, now they’re all asking if I have any extra I want to part with.
Something fishy I’ve noticed lately is that a couple of new indoor ranges do not allow you to pick up brass. It must all be swept forward of the firing line. I’m betting it’s all going to their reloading room in the back.
If this article hasn’t been posted yet, it should be, it sounds like it has the answers.
I will be glad when this beanie baby thing is over and prices hopefully plummet.

Use a brass catcher and tell them to suck it; that brass is your property. If they object, never darken their door again.

What about the Russian stuff? I do remember that it was cheaper.
1. We need to petition manufacturers to STOP selling to government and law enforcement agencies.
2. We need to petition Ted Cruz, Rand Paul...the GOOD guys... to pass legislation to sell BACK the ammo that they purchased over the last 2-3 years.

In early January I bought new reloading press and a number of new dies. Intent was to be sure I had fair amount of ammo for the guns I already had.
It took almost 30 days to get one shipment, but I got every piece I ordered.
Ordered some 348 brass and bullets from another supplier and that came quickly.
Shoot 30/30, 30-06, 348 and 221 fireball ammo. None of what I shoot is the popular stuff. (223, 308, 9MM, 40SW)
Was able to buy more primers, powder and some 22 ammo from small local suppliers. As well as several boxes of 30/30 ammo, not all the same bullet type. Most were 170 gr., my favorite.
Purchased some lead wheel weights and have a mold for 30 cal. bullets. Primarily for the 30/30, but could be shot in the 30-06 or a 308 in a pinch. With the right bullet lube it is good to about 1600 fps without leading. Depending on the rifle and lead in the bullet to about 2000 fps.
The toughest part was the brass, but I found some nearby once fired brass for the 30/30 and the 30-06. The rest I already had.
At this time I am in pretty good shape. And did not break the bank doing it. Be patient.

Most 7.62x39 is Russian. I was at a gun show a month ago and Russian stuff was available, $400 a thousand round box. I couple weeks later I was able to buy a thousand rounds of same ammo from a reputable online dealer for $260.
Buy lots of ammo in the past and continue to hoard it, either because you plan to resell it at inflated prices, or because your paranoia has no bounds.
2) Most gun owners have difficulty finding ammo.
3) It turns out the government is in fact about to go around killing right-leaning citizens and rounding up the rest into work camps.
4) The government is able to disarm most Americans because they don't have sufficient ammo.
5) The government can then focus its efforts on the few "smart" preppers who are overstocked with ammo.
"Smart" preppers need to start selling some of their overstock to likeminded folks.
