Johann Crüger set the words of “Herzliebster Jesu” (O Dearest Jesus, or Ah, Holy Jesus) to music in 1640. Crüger wrote the music for a number of famous hymns, including “Nun Danket Alle Gott” (Now Thank We All Our God) and “Jesu, Meine Freude” (Jesus, My Joy, or Jesus, Priceless Treasure).
