I used to do death investigations, and have seen more than my fair share of autopsies etc.
Judging from the lividity and the fixed eyes, we agreed that he was probably dead (and had been dead for some time) when the photo was taken.
But we also agreed that without being on the spot to take a pulse, you can't be sure.
And we are supposed to trust “US officials” now?! Not freaking likely.

Live Leak had a video posted on September 12 (not sure if it was Libya time) of Amb Stevens, deceased, in the morgue. The guy lifting the cover off him has a gun. Since I don’t know my guns, it’s a long one (assault rifle?). They are also speaking Arabic (I believe).
The really friendly looking guy lifting the sheet off his body is holding a rather large gun in the Live Leak vid posted on Sept. 12, 2012.
