It is a perfectly valid question in response to such a question that hate being called racists. If they throw around such a name as ‘racist’ and ask why then what is wrong with responding with such as stupid question as why do they hate being called names?

It’s a valid counter-question. “Racist” is used as a perjorative, a demeaning insult with little basis in practical applicability, a put-down imputing malice where rarely true.
