Doctors who own private practices are looking for a way out. Fed up with their rising business expenses and shrinking payouts from insurers, many are selling their practices to hospitals.
It's happening nationwide and has picked up pace, said Tony Stajduhar, president at Jackson & Coker, a physician recruitment firm.
Experts say the number of physicians unloading their practices to hospitals is up 30% to 40% in the last five years. Doctors who sell typically become employees of the hospital, as do the people who work for them.
The reasons for the trend vary. Doctors are tired of the hassle of filing insurance claims and collecting payments from patients and want to only focus on medicine again, Stajduhar said.
Obamacare has also created more fear of the unknown. Doctors are worried that new regulations will add to their administrative work and require them to pour more money into their businesses, Stajduhar said.
Dr. Patrick Cobb, an oncologist in Montana, sold his 30-year group practice Frontier Cancer Center to a hospital in December. His practice was struggling for years even before health reform passed.

But.....But....But.... I distinctly remember Hussein telling us that if we liked our doctor, we could stay with him. Well I liked my doc ....so I get to stay with him??? .....Riiight???
Our health care system is plagued by government and insurance companies. i think the time has come for a mass boycott of all healthcare.
Yet, these entitlement monkees in DC want to impose that same self-defeating system on America's medical care.
All by design, Comrade. The faster they crash and burn our healthcare system, the sooner they can implement their ‘Single Payer’ plan, or ‘Socialized Medicine’ as it’s commonly known.
0bammy SAID that was his end goal. He’s pushing it as hard and asw fast as he can!
My current doctor is near retirement age and I would expect him to retire early once Obamacare kicks in and I can hardly blame him. What will drive doctors to quit will be when government bureaucrats dictate the care they are to give or not give to patients.
The "Docter" will see you now.
We pay our doctor cash for office visits. Its about half of what my Mom pays him through Medicare. If insurance was tailored to handle catastrophic stuff like hospital bills as it used to be heathcare would not be so expensive. People need to get weaned off of the $20 co-pay and the prescrition coverage and get back to basic coverage. Costs would drop dramatically if we did.
Thank OBayMe, Pelosi, Reid and the vermin Liberals in Congress for the next Holocaust. Remember them in 2014.
I have already made up my mind and will not sign up for ACA, but instead will pay the fine. I have been making cash payments to my GP for 5 years without difficulty. Because I pay fee for service my discount is generally 50%. I’m 50+ generally in good health! I payed cash for my colonoscopy in 2011 and got a 25% discount saving $900.00, put it on the Credit Card at 0% interest for 12 months and payed it off in 10 months. I would like catastrophic Insurance for the big things, Cancer, Heart Attack etc, but it’s nearly impossible to get at a reasonable rate and still be able to afford basic health care at my doctors office. By paying the fine I will get to keep the basic health care I need.
Good job. I know it’s not easy.
So far, he has not retired.
I have heard some talkshow hosts remark about big changes in Medicare next year. But, they did not give any details. Usually, Medicare changes for the next year are not published until October of the current year. Initially, Medicare payments to doctors were going to be reduced, but apparently that changed and they will be increased a bit.
In Obamaworld,
H&R Block Income Tax and Medical Services.
Fill out your tax form while you wait for our PA to review your medical case and assign you to a healthcare provider.

Really? The way things seem to go, it may not be /s.
At the cost of less freedom. Hussein will tell the hospitals what to do, and the hospitals will tell the doctors what to do.
“I would like catastrophic Insurance for the big things, Cancer, Heart Attack etc, but its nearly impossible to get at a reasonable rate”
Actually, catastrophic insurance under Obamacare is free, because you can sign up for full-coverage insurance as soon as you get really sick and need someone else to pay for your medical bills since you can’t be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions!
Private practice doctores write puff thousands each year in unpaid bills. Hospitals make you pay until it is paid in full
Aaaaaa, yup! No one goes through 10 years of higher education and the debt that comes with it to become an underpaid technician jumping through hoops for some gooberment bureaucrat.
Yeah, but who cares? There's a royal baby on the way and MLB is gearing back up after the All Star break, right? Bread and circuses, baby!
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
My cardiologist and the 7 other Dr.s in his practice bailed. Now belong to the hospital.
I was talking to the office mgr on my last visit. She said expect all Dr.s to do the same. Only way they can make any money now or future.
