Shhhhhh -- let them file.
It does. But there would need to be a hearing on the issue of whether it applies. Almost certainly would be held to.
No, the defendant in the civil case would request an immunity hearing prior to the civil case under FL law.
In spite of the jury not hearing evidence regarding TM’s past and a shaky start by his defense lawyer with the knock knock joke, the jury was still able to arrive at the correct verdict. I am still amazed by that. The judge was just awful.
it was not invoked by the defense, I think the judge’s instructions mentioned SYG in passing though
It does.
I like this Zimmerman family more every day. I especially love the polite, soft-spoken but unmistakable “make my day” attitude they have.
What a sickening bunch of commenters on there. Calling GZ a racist - ROFL, pathetic POS.
Never mind the obvious blog-bias itself.
They’re upset at a 2nd party to the event telling it like it is.
That would be the first lie put to rest in a civil suit.
Why is it so hard for people to understand someone who kills a kid whose sole intent was to get home from the store, should be held accountable by the justice system?
Why is it so hard for people to understand that known thieves who assault armed men have short life expectancies?
It’s open warfare in a civil setting.
Rachel can really get into it then.
I have watched him before when interviewed and he seems very intelligent and has a good grasp of the facts which were used to defend his brother.
But the race profiteers are not interested.
Because if the TRUTH comes out, people will find the "kid" was a thug, on drugs, and looking for a place to burglarize, until he encountered the neighborhood watchman?
The defense will also depose his brother as well, and anyone who thinks that anything unflattering that they uncover won't make it to the media is kidding themselves.
Did you notice that cheap shot right at the end of the article?
“Why is it so hard for people to understand someone who kills a kid whose sole intent was to get home from the store, should be held accountable by the justice system?”
Why is it so hard for Huffington Post writers to understand that when someone kills a thug whose sole intent is beating them to death, it is self defense and that their actions should be supported by the justice system?
I believe in FL it does. I don’t know if that is contingent on whether or not the DA presses charges or not.
I don’t believe there will be a lawsuit. The pro-Trayvon side could find very little dirt on Zimmerman. Zimmerman’s defense on the other hand found tons of dirt on Trayvon and his family.
All of this dirt could and would come out in a civil trial and they know it. Right now, his family can play the victim card as the aggrieved party, but that would change somewhat if they filed a civil lawsuit. There have already been more than a few rumblings in the media that illustrate that Trayvon was not the little angel he has been made out to be. Trayvon’s parents have a cash cow now and they won’t jeopardize that when they know they will lose and the public will hear far more of the truth than they did during the trial.
What happened was a tragedy, but the tragedy of Trayvon was already written by his parents and the flawed culture he grew up in - statistically, the story of this kid was not going to end well and they know it in their hearts. To see him portrayed as anything other than another casualty of a broken home, poor parenting, and a failed culture is as ridiculous as the criminal charge against Zimmerman.
The odds are extremely high that this young man was headed for destruction. The odds are extremely slim that he was going to get a good job and be a family man. This is the real tragedy of Trayvon and it is unfortunate for Zimmerman that Trayvon’s seemingly inevitable demise intersected with him.
Waiting in the bushes then attacking someone is not the way you get home.
If only that were true!
If that were the case, he would not have sneaked up on George and started to fight him, he would still be alive, and neither George and his relatives nor Trayvon's relatives would have to have suffered.
