From the Internet: In 1955, Xinjiang province was renamed Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The name that was originally proposed was simply "Xinjiang Autonomous Region". Saifuddin Azizi, the first chairman of Xinjiang, registered his strong objections to the proposed name with Mao Zedong arguing that "autonomy is not given to mountains and rivers. It is given to particular nationalities." Mao agreed and the administrative region was named "Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region" to recognize its significant ethnic Uyghur population.
Saifuddin Azizi--that is an Arab name, no doubt about it. Whodda thunk that the Chinese and Arabs had anything in common besides a continent?
I vote for cooling. For the past 10 years, Michigan has had less days that require using the AC. I have used my 3 days so far and its almost winter in this state...
