I don’t believe the man for a second. He’s not turning his back on his own thesis. Anything Sisi does is for his own benefit and not the West’s.

Sisi could have easily moved the military to protect the Copts against well-anticipated MB attacks, but did not.

The Obama Administration is absolutely supporting the military; they’ve been doing that all along, even in spite of the break between the MB and their military appointees. The administration still steadfastly refuses to say the words “military coup”.

Looks to me like 1 part occupy wall street, 1 part military strong man, 1 part “Caliphist”, and 1 part beneficiary of American dollars.

I also agree that it seems odd that the military that has protected the Copts for years even during conflict, has suddenly lost that ability.
