Testimony from victims now strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin Nerve Gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior UN diplomat said Monday. Carla del Ponte, a member of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels seeking to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent. But she said her panel had not yet seen any evidence of Syrian government forces using chemical weapons (CW), according to the BBC, she added that more investigation was needed. Damascus is facing growing Western accusations that its forces used such weapons, which US President Obama has described as crossing a Red Line. But Ms. del Ponte’s remarks may serve to shift the focus of international concern.

My suspicions of Obama’s veracity are unchanged as well.

If he actually believes absurdities, it's not lying.

I sure hope it's proven that the gas attack was mounted by the rebels....if nothing more than to completely debunk O'Reilly's claim to the contrary on tonight's Factor.

O'R was outgunned by both Col. Hunt and Col. Peters who disagreed with O'Reilly's smug assurances that the rebels were clean by citing the left-wing Doctors without Borders organization's unsubstantiated claims as "proof".

It was really fun tonight watching the eyes and eyebrows of the two frustrated and disgusted colonels as they tried to get a word in edgewise to disprove the speculative crap the Bloviator was blowing all over the airwaves tonight.

Because they are officers and gentlemen, the two military men couldn't really tell O'Reilly he was insane in his whole take on Syria, but their quizzical, raised eyebrows interspersed with eyeball-rolling told the whole story in pantomime right up till the end of the segment.

I loved it!

Kiss it Bill O’Reilly!

O’Smiley was just on selling involvement in Syria on the grounds that it was definitely the Syrian government that used that gas.

He accused Col David Hunt of “not trusting his own government” and literally chastised the Col like he was a little kid when he dared to disagree with the jerk.

"The relatively low number of fatalities speaks to a inefficient system."

That's an interesting point. And why would the rebels kill their own neighbors--women, children and all? Such an action would seem to be poor public affairs work.

O'Reilly can be a pompous and hypocritical jerk, sometimes, and he definitely does not know everything.
He himself makes almost daily implications that Obama is either a total ignoramus, or a total incompetent, or a worthy successor to that ultimate political lying criminal, Bill Clinton. But then there's the humorous "fair and balanced" thing, which often is fair and absurd.

...”why would the rebels kill their own neighbors—women, children and all? Such an action would seem to be poor public affairs work”....

For the same reason they were doing so in Egypt...it’s not the rebels (homegrown fighters) it’s the MBS just as happened in Egypt.

Assad’s father had to deal with them (MBS) in his country and so has Asssad now...he made it perfectly clear from the start when they were infilitrating the rebel ranks, that he was fighting terrorists...and so did the rebels.

This has the clear earmarks of the MBS all over it....this is exactly how they operate in every country they send their thugs in.....they pit one side against the other until it gets so hot the International enters the picture....(just like they did in Egypt). They are doing the same in Syria...

If the rebels were the ones who did it, this brings up a few TROUBLING questions:

1) Did they develop the Chemical weapons themselves, or were they GIVEN these WMD’s.

2) If the latter ( i.e., they were given ), WHO/WHERE was the source from?

3) If they can use it in Syria, what’s to stop them from giving it to terrorists who CAN and WILL use it in the West ( and here in the USA )?
