The combination of Shinto and Buddhism as historically practiced in Japan is a fair distance from the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. In Japan it became a warrior religion with accompanying meditation. Nothing in Japan is simple.

I’m sure that by the time I wake up tomorrow the liberals will have come up with a way to blame me, for something I believe in, to have caused this.

Have you noticed how often a setback for the gun grabbers is quickly followed by some horrific event like this?

Who writes this fantasy crap?

Seattle PD said he was not arrested and they failed to follow-up on the police report about him shooting two tires.

When in Fort Worth, a shot was fired through his ceiling (not his roof) and went through the floor of the apt. above. The woman who lived there claimed he did it on purpose because she had previously called cops on him for playing loud music. .....FWPD bought his story that the gun accidently fired when he was cleaning it, so he was not arrested then, either.

Buddhists have not been historically any less tolerant or more peaceful than any other religion.

With the exception of Islam, there's a difference between a culture's adoption of a religion and the religion itself....

The “Buddhist” war crimes were Japanese war crimes....

I know at least a hundred Buddhists (and several Buddhist Monks). They are the calmest, most peaceful people I’ve ever met. I’ve got a feeling that the Navy Yard Shooter had seen just one too many Kung Fu episodes and was under the impression that all Buddhists are martial arts masters that could teach him how to be a bada$$.

One would note that the distance between the followers of Christ and a modern Baptist or Catholic would be even further, yet I hope noone would assert that the Baptist or Catholic was not Christian.

Yes. The Mongols are Tibetan Buddhists. Most were as they spread horror over Asia but they quickly converted to Islam except in Mongolia.

You sound very much like my deceased Brother in law. I’ve got footlockers full of his collection of history of war. I’m ready to give it away.

I just moved to San Diego and have many many boxes of books. I had 53 boxes of books 3 moves ago. I haven’t counted since then.

I was looking at my copy of Weigley’s “American Way of War” a few days ago. Written before ULTRA was public, it is still of great value.

We won WWII because we were luckly. We were lucky that Germans and Japanese were arrogant and had poor signals security. We were lucky that Hitler attacked his Soviet ally (and his Polish ally, his French ally, and his Italian ally...). and his racist policies put the worlds top physicists at our disposal, or at least denied them to the Nazi war machine.

Oddly prescient given emerging news about psychotic behavior
