In todays world welfare is not for those that cannot help themselves, if it were nobody would begrudge it. In todays world under ‘Democrat” socialist rule it is simply a means of redistribution. There are those that genuinely believe it is unfair for some to have more or live better than some others. I personally believe that that is a mental health problem that will one day have to be solved with powder and lead.
What about charity. Well when I was a young man we had an expression, “Charity begins at home”. I have nine kids, their spouses and 18 grand babies to worry about. I live on a place much bigger than I need, it actually is a hassle to care for, but, in a SHTF situation I have room for all of my kids and theirs. We have a water supply in a spring that we can guard, we have stored water that can care for us for months and enough wood cut to last at least one winter.
Fuel and electricity however are what I am most concerned about. Harbor Freight recently had their 45W solar electric system on sale for $139. We got several of them so that in an emergency we can have at least some electronics charged up and working.
The thing is, I may never need any of this. I didn't need my life insurance but I had it until I got old. If you fail to plan then you plan to fail.
It is very possible that when I croak my kids will look at the hoard and laugh and wonder why I had all this stuff and that is OK by me.
I have been seriously thinking of buying a small trailer digging tool so that if I do have to shoot people I can easily get rid of the bodies.
When a revolutionary leader takes over the country you have to be prepared to think like that. Make no mistake, Obama is a revolutionary. He hates us. That means he hates the USA. If anybody has any doubts about who he is, he cut off funding to Egypt after Egypt threw out the Muslim Brotherhood.
At the helm of the US is a Racist, rabble rouser, socialist Muslim apologist.
He hates Capitalism because it allowed white capitalists to run the world. His plan is to bury that opportunity forever and to make the west the footstool of the caliphate.
I personally will fight for the freedoms that our founding fathers risked blood, liberty and fortune for. Those freedoms have advanced the world farther and faster than anything that has ever happened in the world.
One day I will stand before The Lord. I will be ashamed of much in my life but not defending the truths and freedoms given to me by the founders and protected for me by veterans.
As for preparing, well it takes time. You have to look ahead. Everytime something is on sale, if it is a worth while sale get a years worth of it. It won't cost anything to do that, it will save you money because you won't have to purchase any for a year. Once you have stuff you have to be able to defend it or it was not worth having and you will starve anyway.
Personally, I believe the stuff is getting awfully close to the fan, if you haven't been a prepper you must now hurry and sacrifice to get prepared. Just remember that whatever you spend to be prepared is money well spent and that you will use what you buy so there is no loss in the expenditure.
Lastly, get some cash in a safe place you can get to in a hurry. Get several ounces of gold you can get and keep with you if you have to flee. Keep a couple hundred pounds of silver for barter, preferably in "junk" coins. That is pre 64 coins in the smallest denomination possible, dimes. Today the value of one silver dime will buy near a gallon of gas. Silver always makes for some good trading and is very easy to hide. Once it hits the fan silver will be worth much more than it is now. It is really kind of cheap, I think it should be worth at least 3 times what it is going for and probably 4 times what you can buy it for today.
Stop thinking about it, get busy and protect yourself and those you love.
You did not understand. You are observing abuses on the ground. You are down in the weeds looking at the worms.
EBT/Food Stamps is a drug to keep people from becoming savage. It will take a while to unravel because a leader must ask people to look at themselves in the mirror and feel shame for taking something that they have not earned. And we are talking about those that can earn, we are not talking about the elderly and disabled.
The first phase is to grow the economy and move 40 million of the 50 million of EBT accounts into the inactive file. Then of the 10 million that remain we must determine gently that they are accounts held for the truly needy. And we must always strive to get the administration of these programs as local a level as possible with the goal of having the federal government completely out of it.
The real key for the longer term future is tax reform. Americans are still predominately Judeo-Christian in their characters and that means they are by their nature generous and charitable. That means the charitable infrastructure can assist and provide lifelines for the elderly and disabled, the truly needy. But if people are taxed to the max, there is just not enough to go around.
If there is local control, meaning the fed gov is out of the picture, then people are forced to meet their neighbors face to face, and the truth comes out much easier. Then abuses become rarer and rarer.
And us gloom and doomers are trying to warn them, but to no, or very little avail.
JA, if someone is trying to break down your door, keeps at it, he is going to kill you. That is Rule One. You can't allow him to get in and ask him if he is going to kill you - he is because he is there. If you live in a state that doesn't allow you to defend yourself, I would move and I mean that. I know you can't move so you shoot the SOB - YOU SHOOT and you and your family are safe. You have many lives depending on you, so SHOOT.
You appear to be prepared to last a long time and so am I. I am prepared today and it took a long time to get this way so if the worst happens, I won't lose much of my standard of living. I write prepper articles so people can get prepared and there have been almost 40,000 hits on those articles. That is all I can do to inform people to prepare for an emergency.

Our house is not a good design for defense. 5 doors upstairs, and 2 doors is basement, plus lots of windows up stairs and 3 windows in the basement.
We have a lot to do to get ready in that aspect. Up until a few years ago, people around here still didn’t even lock their doors.

There is a psychological element in deciding whether to open a door or not or whether to go with a gut feeling or not - like moving away from someone you get that “hair standing up on my neck” feeling about.
This phenomenon is YOU DON’T WANT TO EMBARASS YOURSELF IN THE OTHER PERSON’S EYES. When you give in to that, YOU OPEN THE DOOR, YOU STAY AROUND A DANGEROUS PERSON, etc.. In either case, you may end up dead - just because you didn’t want to be embarrassed. Always take the safe route when you feel unsafe. Embarrassed is not nearly as bad as being dead.
What happens if you don’t open your door? You are safe.
What happens if it was the termite man you forgot you called and you didn’t open the door? You are safe.
What happens if it was your aunt from Omaha and she had laryngitis and couldn’t talk to tell you who she was? You are safe.
What could happen if you open the door and it couldn’t happen if you hadn’t opened the door? You are dead.
The conclusion is - don’t open the door and you are safe. Open the door, and bad things could happen.
People in my area a short while ago were warned not to open the door unless we were absolutely sure the man on the other side of the door is actually a city worker. The advice from the city and police was, DON’T OPEN THE DOOR - call the city and ask if a city worker was coming to your house.
Two men were following a senior home from a shopping center. After the senior was in the house, one of the men would ring the bell and appear to be a city worker who said he needed to see the back yard as the city was removing dead trees or sick trees. The senior would take the “city worker” to the backyard - then the other man would come in the house and grab certain items, then go back to the car and wait on the other man to get back.
They stole sterling silver and gold jewelry from these houses. The senior wouldn’t recognize anything was gone until later.

The cheapest way to “arm” your windows is to put battery run vibration detectors on the windows. A loud alarm goes off if the window is touched enough to vibrate it.
Thanks. I am thinking that works to set alert us, but doesn nothing to slow down the intrusion if SHTF. Gonna have to figure out how to fortify if needed.
Gotta prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.
