A lion gets thrown into the air by a buffalo bull trying to save his friend from Being EATEN by Lions.

The amazing footage was filmed by Ian Matheson and his son Oliver in the Mjejane Reserve, on the border of Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Nyati: Africa's deadliest big game animal.

Flipped that lion like a cheese omelet.

Yes, quite amazing. The cat was flipped over like a flapjack. Not a surprise that all animals walked away. Cats of all sizes usually survive falls and sudden drops found in a wooded environment. Not sure if I would’ve brought my 16 y/o son out there just to take pictures.

Cape Buffalo will not only run you down, they’ll turn you into hamburger before they are done.

I’ve heard they still can charge 100 yards after having their heart blown to bits by a big-bore rifle.

One mistake in the commentary....that’s not a juvenile lion. It is a fully grown female. Females make the kill and the male feeds afterward. And she takes a good goring to her right flank.

Look at how high and easily he throws that 500 lb lion and not just once. They have some strong neck muscles.

I think I read it in a Capstick book that the dangerous African big game animals attack like this:

The Rhinoceros will charge, stop, flip you into the air with it's horn, and then waddle off without doing anything else. Many hunters don't even regard them as game animals. Rhinos are bird brains and aren't usually aggressive to other animals or humans. When in doubt, they attack. I fed a Rhinoceros by hand once and the whole time it was focused on the big stalks of celery I had and nothing else. It's like he was standing there saying "Doot-de-doot-de-doot... OOOH! CELERY! nom nom nom." The animal is just a giant armored African Tapir. Terrifying and adorable at the same time.

The Elephant will run up to you and stomp you flat or at least until you stop moving. They inspect you and if they think you're no longer a threat, they leave.

Humans can survive Rhino and Elephant attacks if the animal stops before it kills them.

Hippopotamus will chase you down and stomp until you're a pile of goo, then they trundle away. They will bite if you put up a fight, which is pretty much fatal to humans. Even if you survive the immediate attack, there's nothing that any doctor is going to be able to do for you if you've been chomped by a hippo. They cause the most human deaths in Africa of any other game animal with the Crocodile running in second place.

The Cape Buffalo will charge, ground you, and hoof you to death until you come apart and they've scattered your body parts over a wide area. They won't leave you in one piece because their natural predators in the wild aren't the kind to give up.

Peter Capstick mentioned in one of his books that he shot a Cape Buffalo through the heart while it was grazing. The animal just kept on eating while the blood squirted in a stream 15 feet long. Took 15-20 minutes for the buffalo to fall down and die.

I would never describe a cape buffalo as ‘defenseless”. They’re one of the most dangerous and aggressive animals in Africa.

The Bills never do get the breaks, do they?

I guess that's the buffalo getting thrown in the air. I always wondered.
