I have a lawyer that was born and educated in the Philippines and I am the godfather to their daughter, so I know some of what I preach about the people, the culture and the things to watch out for.
They are Catholic and some get extreme and even nail themselves to crosses. Just as they get extreme a few regarding THAT, watch out for the Muslim version of that and do not walk alone into jungle.
With that same extreme there are indeed Muslim radicals you don’t want to come across over there that would kill you and take your head.
Be careful of the flooding areas just like the sane do here in the USA. We also have kooks that live in tornado ally and other bad places.
If not married and you want to find a wife, the women there are nice people in general.
If you have a problem, find Art Bell.
You could start off by learning the correct way to spell 'Philippines'.

I have learned from my Filipino co-workers never to use the term ‘PI’. The two letters represent the initials of a certain profanity which is most disrespectful.
No one holds on to their youthful looks better than a Filipino woman.

I can get San Miguel at my local Publix here in Florida ,,it stinks ,, but then it’s old , stale and has been in hot warehouses when we get it here... in the Philippines it and “Beer na Beer” are both quite good... but you’ll find that rum drinks are far far cheaper as unlike beer rum doesn’t require refrigeration.
Good luck but consider a few things before you go: I know a number of Filipinas. They are all married to not so good looking Americans. I don’t mean this as an insult. The husbands are all nice guys, and really good providers but the reason these knock out gorgeous women are married to homely men is that they wanted to get out of the Philippines and considered themselves lucky that an American wanted them. Filipinas who aren’t so lucky end up working as nannies in cold Canada or maids in Saudi Arabia— a very dangerous job because the Saudis are some of the meanest people on earth. They do this because life at home is crap. Do you really want to go to a country where the people are doing whatever is necessary to get out?
Actually, they 'go abroad' because there are too few jobs in The Philippines. They leave their home and culture so they can be productive for themselves and their families. This is a legacy of Marcos and the culture of corruption he fostered and it will take generations to undo. Women there are just like women anywhere. They crave security and safety for themselves and their kids. If you show up as a foreigner with more prospects then the handsome kid in school who has no job options and will probably live with his parents until they die, you will find that the women will overlook the fact that you are 30 years older then them, or your false teeth, or the pot belly you have been working on for forty years. And if you provide that safety and security, they will be loyal to you until you die.
I suggest taking the exploratory trip first, especially to those who have never been there before or have not visited there in several decades, like a Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force Vet who may have passed thru one of the former U.S. Military bases there decades ago (former Subic Bay Naval Base or Clark Air Force Base).
It can be quite a culture shock for Americans who first set foot there and many Americans simply cannot adjust to the Filipino Culture. It is better to spend a month or two there on an exploratory trip first where you make no commitments, either financial or mental/emotional, to get a feel for their culture and whether you would enjoy yourself there or not, than committing yourself to a move to a place that you discover you do not want to be.
You may also want to consider traveling to the PI with a friend and not by yourself, especially a friend who has been there or may even live there now - they can meet you wherever you fly into, whether it be Manila, Cebu or elsewhere.

I was "Station Dito" in Subic Bay from 1987 - 1989 while I was in the Navy, so I know a little bit more about Filipino culture than many, but knowing that, if I ever wanted to move back there permanently, I would take an exploratory trip first, as it has been nearly 25 years since I was last there and things there may have changed since the last time I was there.
