I suspect that many readers understand that "Universal Background Checks" is progressive code talk for "enabling universal gun registration, and that gun registration is gun confiscation.

Universal Background Checks is Code for Universal Registration

Gun Registration is Gun Confiscation

This isn’t turning out the way the Seattle Times wanted it to. They will probably just bury their own poll.

The constitutional position, that Americans have the right to keep and bear arms (without any government interference) was still leading the poll a moment ago. AMAZING that the majority of respondents, readers of this liberal paper in the “liberal” city of Seattle...even remember we have a constitution. Go check out the poll yourself ! Smile Smile Smile

That will learn ‘em to put an actual constitutional position in a poll!

Already voted. I do not think it is going their way and from the comments I read, voters know that.

You are so right! Here is a comment, considered, concise, well written.

“The wording of this poll is leading and shameful.

Most gun owners are not opposed to background checks, but every proposal I know of that has tried to address exactly that, without creating a registry of guns or their owners, has been deep-sixed by disingenuous oppponents.

As last year’s legislative initiative showed us, there is no question that what the gun control lobby actually wants is gun registration. Last year’s WA bill would have made background checks mandatory for all transfers, but would have eliminated the state pistol registry. That represented an actual compromise (a word the gun control lobby likes to use, but doesn’t seem to understand). That background check bill had the support of the state’s prominent gun rights lobby, yet went nowhere, because the control lobby wasn’t willing to let go of registration.

When gun control proponents stop spreading misleading statistics and lying about their real goals, and begin good-faith debate, we can find common ground. Until then, there’s no reason whatsoever to trust their motives or their proposals.”

Gun Control is a loser issue in this state if you look at history.
I’m am worried though. I need to get to the gun store and replace
the ones I lost in a boating accident.

Reading the comments show what the voters are really thinking. In some polls, the comments are more interesting than the poll itself. It shows what people in flyover country are really thinking without the bias news reporting. I quit watching the news over 25 years ago and I am more informed than the news watchers. I read a lot and make an informed opinion. Facebook is a wealth of conservative news. People just have to know what is available. I would guess that 99% of my friends are Conservative Christians. The others do not discuss their political thoughts.

What is amazing to me has been the ability to see how we have been so massively lied to and mislead over the last 80 years. Enormous changes in society, to our detriment, based on big lies. Most of them in the last 50 years.

Love the comments back at the newspaper.

The paper lauds their FYI Guy, Gene Balk, who stated more people died by gun violence than automobile accidents last year in Washington state.

So a reader calls Bull$hit, and cites the FBI Crime states for Washington state - 194 killed, 106 with firearms. Then the commenter cites the Transportation statistics for the same year. 467 Traffic related deaths.

Looks like their FYI guy is the L-I-E Guy...

Seriously, never accept their bald faced lies. If it sounds bad, it’s usually bad data.

I am surprised no one has taken down the poll or closed it. It is the weekend. Probably no one is paying attention. It this a “runaway” poll?
