I attended Air Command and Staff College in 1976. We had an exchange officers from the Iranian Air Force. He was a bright and capable individual and lived with his family in Montgomery, AL for 10 months. At the time my fellow students had no question that he would rise in rank when he returned to Iran. As we know that wasn’t how things occurred. He and many other similar officers lost their lives in the Iranian Revolution against the Shah. He was never given an opportunity to contribute to a stronger society which respected life and liberty.

This morning I’m reading about the Egyptian’s voting on a new constitution. It is very amazing. The Christian minority is rally behind the charter. People are very positive about the future in that Nation. One report said that as helicopters hovered over the heads of voters Wednesday a loud cheer went up. “Thank you, el Sissi!” the crowd shouted, referring to the country’s popular military chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el Sissi.

So I was interested to know if el Sissi had attended any Senior Service Schools. He had. He had attended several including in the U.S. and other countries. Here’s a list of some of his courses and assignments:

General Command and Staff Course, Egyptian Command and Staff College, 1987 General Command and Staff Course, Joint Command and Staff College, United Kingdom, 1992 War Course, Fellowship of the Higher War College, Nasser's Military Sciences Academy, Egypt, 2003 War Course, US Army War College, United States, 2006 Egyptian Military Attaché in Riyadh, KSA Basic Infantry Course, USA

Looking back one would have to assume that some of this training prepared him for leadership in helping to build a strong society that respects life and liberty. I wish the Iranian Air Force officer would have had the same opportunity.
