…and a fun time was had by all. (Take a friend shooting!)
The San Fernando Valley NRA Members' Council ^ | January 26, 2014 | Steve

Our Members’ Council spent yesterday at the Angeles Shooting Ranges  hosting some first time shooters. The really cool thing was that we weren't the only ones doing this. There were several groups  of first-timers there being introduced to shooting by friends. More specifically, being introduced to shooting black guns. Those iron plates out at the 100m line were getting the snot beat outta them!

There has been a trend lately by the anti-gun lobby to claim that there are fewer gun owners in the US and that, somehow, the number of people exercising a right determines that right’s importance.

Take your friends shooting! You'll either turn them into fellow gun owners or you'll make them immune to the arguments of the gun grabbers. Either is a good result.

Once you get them hooked, be sure and tell them that democrat majorities and their 2A rights aren’t compatible.

I took 3 fellow teachers out shooting, and they loved it. It’s the best way to make pro-gun voters.

Our gun club has a “take your daughters” shooting day each year. The young ladies 8-18 really get into it once exposed and they get good quickly. The gun club provides the 22 rifles and ammo and provides a mentor for each shooter. Gun clubs should be encouraged to sponsor these introduction days not only for the young ladies and men but also any one interested.

There are gun grabbing control freak politicians, and then there are masses of sheep who don’t like guns because they make loud noises. The latter are potential guests at the range, and be sure to take them out for a burger afterward.

When my Daughter was young we would play a really fun shooting game.

We would line up two rows of 10 empty 12 gauge shotgun shells. We would take turns shooting a single shot Daisy model 953 target pellet gun. The winner was whoever knocked all their shells over first.

She eventually got to where she could totally keep up with me. I would win some and she would win some.

So....did you reward her efforts with something really cool? Like a “Hello,Kitty” AR?

This is a GREAT idea!

We all know about the theory that “ignorance is bliss”. Maybe taking someone whose never put a round down range and letting them do just that is the way to go.

Lord knows that I spent enough time on the range and in the pits that I could do just that.

I’ve never bothered to ask because I shoot on private property, but why the prohibition on steel & bimetal ammo. That’s all I shoot through my Saiga AK. It shoots anything flawlessly so I see no reason to pay for expensive American brass cased stuff to run through it.

My AR is a little fussier, but does well with WPA Military Classic, thus saving me a lot of money over the last year.

Nothing that nice. I put together a kit .22 single shot for her. I painted the barrel pink but the stock baby blue.

It was an inexpensive one made in Spain. It had one odd preference. It would shoot .22 shorts much more accurately than longs or LR’s. Most .22s do far better with the LR. I guess she still has it.

She lives half way across the country and I only get to see her around once or even less a year. I am old enough and in bad enough health that I cannot make the trip there. She and her Son and Husband have several guns including pellet rifles.

My Granddaughter has no interest in guns. She is into American Dolls. I think that is a particular brand.

photo Picture065001_zpsa5fcf5a9.jpg Here she is on my parents land. We had been shooting the Colt H-Bar and a High Standard Sentinel .22 revolver. She is just posing in the picture as we had quit by then and taken off the safety glasses and ear muffs.

No, she says she wants a Remington 700 chambered in .223.

It’s not the steel cased ammo that they don’t allow; it’s the steel jacketed stuff. A lot of Russian ammo is copper over steel with a lead core. If that stuff strikes a rock it can spark. And since we haven’t had much in the way of real rain lately, that can easily start a fire. The range masters keep a few magnets out on the line so that they can check suspect ammo. It’s kinda surprising to see what you thought was a copper jacketed round dangling from a magnet.

Remington makes a pump action that takes AR mags.
