Some day you will grow up.

Animals are not people - I never said that. But snakes have a useful function in the world. Most of them eat rodents and are better ratters and mouse killers than cats. They can follow them right down into their burrows and take them out.

I think there is a definite correlation between the spread of Deer Tick borne Lyme disease which requires an intermediate rodent host, and the extirpation of snakes in more heavily populated areas.

Are they native to this country?

What, the boas and pythons this guy had? No.

There is a small boa, the rosy boa, native to southern California and another one called the Rubber Boa or Two Headed Snake native to the northern Pacific states.

I had a rosy boa years ago as a pet. It was pretty, docile and ate well.

The ones he had were exotic boas and pythons.

All boas and pythons are valuable in the pet trade and make decent pets, although some like Anacondas and Rock Pythons and Burmese Pythons and Blood Pythons, either get too large for most people to handle or are too nasty in temperament.

The Rosy Boas and some of the smaller species like Ball Pythons are pretty good pets.

No, because Obama’s economy destroyed the industry.

Once thriving small businesses are struggling to survive.

It’s not only the snake breeders, it’s the rodent breeders who supply the food and the companies that sell the billions of dollars worth of herp supplies they use.

They’re all hurting.

Although, reading some of the posts here, I wonder why I even come to FR anymore.

FWIW, most snake breeders/owners are politically conservative.

I’m glad they didn’t see this thread.

People hate snakes for two reasons; fear and ignorance.

Since I have no use for cowards and fools, I no longer bother to ‘defend’ snakes.

YMMV.

If we didn’t have cats hubby might have gotten some sort of reptile after we got married. We just keep collecting cats is all. They get thrown out on our corner. Dogs too.

I could tell when the economy started to slide, the number of strays increased dramatically in my neighborhood. It’s like there’s a sign (that I’ve never seen) that says ‘hey, throw out your housebroken completely pacified pet here, I’m sure they’ll survive on their own!’.

Augh.

An extremely depressing amount of animals have lost their homes, thanks to the won.

Shelters are at an all time high for “owner surrenders”.

People lost their houses and had to rent from non-pet landlords.

There’s very little the won hasn’t ruined or destroyed.

Bless you for taking in the abandoned things.

Attention Southern Californians

Police found more than 400 pythons at a Santa Ana home Wednesday morning. Officers served a search warrant at the house in the 2900 block of North Fernwood Drive around 7 a.m. While interviewing Sondra Berg, Santa Ana police animal services supervisor, television reporters Bobby DeCastro (Fox 11) and Wendy Burch (KTLA 5) plug their noses to avoid the stench emanating from the house, full of dead and decaying snakes. Berg holds an albino ball python that survived.

Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail me.
