Quite true. Nevertheless, Catholic hierarchy has been running interference on behalf of the Democratic Party since at least my seminary days in the 1960's. Likely, it's been much longer than that. That was when I started to pay attention.
Your observation remains axiomatic. I'm Catholic and lost all sympathy for Democrats sometime around 1969. It was shattered for all time in 1973 when every live birth became a cosmic failure for Democrats.
I would be interested in knowing why so many Cardinals and Bishops still want to run that interference since the foundation of the Democratic Party is made of platform planks anathema to what I understand as Catholic positions.
I believe implementation of "social justice" goals is the primary cause. Secondarily, the structure of this church is a centralized bureaucracy with a monarch at it's head as a result there is a natural affinity to similar structures and a distrust of those that prefer the opposite; a decentralized structure insisting on greater personal responsibility.
Let's face it much of the hierarchy in the church is pro socialist. But in the last election Catholics who regularly attended mas voted for Romney, while those who did not attend voted for Obama. Had the conservative wing not stayed home in large numbers Obama would have been a university president today.
