US: Standards for Immigration Reform. What does it mean?

The leadership of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives in Washington has published a statement about its intentions for immigration reform. It is a short document, only a page long and short on detail. But what could it actually mean for the US immigration system.'A step-by-step common sense approach'

This means that the House will not vote for the comprehensive immigration reform bill already passed by the Senate in June 2013. This bill was seen by the White House as a compromise between Republicans and Democrats but Republican leaders in the House seem to believe that they will not be able to persuade right-wing Republicans backed by the radical Tea Party Faction to support any bill that provides for a 'pathway to citizenship' for all illegal immigrants. 'Border Security must come first'

There is going to be even more spending on US border security. The US government spent $18bn on border security in 2013. This is more than on any other branch of law enforcement. 'Implement Entry-Exit Visa Tracking System'

This will mean yet more government spending and greater use of biometric data at airports and other ports as well as within the US itself. Employment Verification and Workplace Enforcement

The statement calls for 'a workable electronic employment verification system'. This will mean a radical expansion of the E-Verify employment checking system which allows workers to check the immigration status of prospective employees before employing them. Reforms to the Legal Immigration System

This paragraph will be of most interest to workpermit.com readers. The statement says 'For far too long, the United States has emphasized extended family members and pure luck over employment-based migration'.

Youth'

The statement says that the Republicans will allow some illegal aliens to become US citizens. In order to be eligible for consideration illegal residents would have to;

Have come to the US as children with their parents Have a clean criminal record Have obtained a college degree or served in the US military

How is it they have illegal aliens who came to America illegally with their parents as youths and that over time, they were legally able to pass military background checks and sign right up?Where are these background being done from Mexico ?

...employment-based migration...

Isn't that when foreigners come in, steal our jobs and send the money back to where they came from?

“Have come to the US as children with their parents “

How the heck are we going to be able to verify that?

And who will do it?

And someone please tell me how our “immigration system is broken.”

Everyone talks about the system being broken but no one is saying how the legal immigration system is broken and CAUSING illegal aliens to flock here.

To me the system is broken as it gives preference to third-world non-skilled aliens, not western European skilled workers. This means it is ‘broken’ in favor of illegal aliens.

They cannot even verify it is 11 million illegals in U.S. or can it be 11.5 illegally in U.S. or is it now said to be 12 million in U.S. illegally..

Our immigration system is broken because the government will not enforce immigration law and will not enforce our national border sovereignty. This is what the government did with the previous immigration law. IMHO it is what the government will do with the next immigration law. I think the government wants to steal money from these people, as taxes, to stave off economic collapse. I think this is more likely than just for dim voters, although that certainly applies. I doubt I will ever really know what actually motivates congress in this matter.

To heck with the GOP (and the Dems both). Stop selling out America.

Stop sending American jobs to Asia.

Bring back JOBS.

No more immigration until our unemployment rate improves a lot. Well below 5%.

Thanks. . .

But what is the argument the left uses to prove our immigration system is ‘broken?”

I don’t see that they have an argument. Reflecting, the left uses the results of not enforcing the law to prove that the law doesn’t work it is simply circular reasoning.
