Cool picture. The first thing I thought of seeing the photo was “No eye protection!?”

But seeing the headline reminded me of the story Peggy Noonan told of in her book “What I saw at the Revolution” (she was a Reagan speech writer.)

She said anything that Reagan said became a matter of public policy, and all the speeches needed to be reviewed by all of the cabinet, etc. to make sure it was within policy, or that they would agree to anything new.

For his “Tear down this wall” speech, the State(?) Department kept removing it from the various drafts, as it was too provocative, and they did not want it as a policy. Various changes would be made to other parts, and Reagan would put that line back in.

This went on for 7-8 times or something with all the various parts of the speech and the various agencies. On the limo ride to the speech, Reagan turned to page whatever of the text and wrote back in those famous lines that nobody wanted him to utter.

Thank God for Ronald Reagan.

And no respirator [the wall contained asbestos-reinforced cement].

Imagine Obambi trying the same thing without protection (and without a teleprompter).
