Obamacare: Now Appearing On Your Restaurant Bill
Zero Hedge ^ | 02/27/2014 | Tyler Durden

That the bulk of Americans (especially those 4+ million whose insurance policies have recently been cancelled as a result of the ACA) have to pay more for healthcare as a result of Obamacare, is now largely accepted and well-known. But did you know that the cost of Obamacare is slowly metastasizing to other places? Such as your restaurant bill.

Presenting Exhibit A.

From CNN:

Several restaurants in a Florida chain are asking customers to help foot the bill for Obamacare. Diners at eight Gator's Dockside casual eateries are finding a 1% Affordable Care Act surcharge on their tabs, which comes to 15 cents on a typical $15 lunch tab. Signs on the door and at tables alert diners to the fee, which is also listed separately on the bill.

If this Obamacare cost is eating into a restaurant’s profits, I can’t see many options they have. Let’s see:

* Fire some workers

* Make full timers part time

* Pass through the costs to other consumers

Can anyone think of other options?

Go out of business and blame it on the Koch Brothers.

And of course the comments from Dem voters:

“I just feel like shouldn’t the owner or the company pay for this? Why should I have to suffer?”

Can anyone think of other options?

1. Ask server if he/she/it voted for Obama

2. If answer is yes, subtract ACA tax from tip

One percent seems low.

Good idea putting ACA surcharge on receipt.

Why don't the restaurants also put one or more of the following excerpts from Supreme Court opinions on receipts? Regardless what activist justices want everybody to think about the constitutionally of Obamacare Democratcare, these excerpts officially clarify that the states have never delegated to Congress, via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for public healthcare purposes.

”State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress. (emphases added)” —Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

“Inspection laws, quarantine laws, health laws of every description (emphasis added), as well as laws for regulating the internal commerce of a state and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c., are component parts of this mass.” —Justice Barbour, New York v. Miln, 1837.

“Direct control of medical practice in the states is obviously (emphasis added) beyond the power of Congress.” –Linder v. United States, 1925.

...and off-topic, but the tip should be calculated on the ‘before tax’ figure.

Why would you be opposed to a business showing their customers the toxic effect of Obamacare?

Just makes an easier decision for me to not eat out, or to to a restaurant that doesn’t have the stupid surcharge. Some people are just sheep.

correct - thanks for the clarification! After calculating tip from pre-tax charges, subtract ACA surcharge.

That is almost an entire 1% addition tax simply to pay for an employee’s healthcare. Moreover, it illustrates how large of a portion of profits that an employer must pay for their employee’s healthcare.

The good thing about going Galt is that you will never see this since you don’t eat at restaurants. :-)

RE: One percent seems low.

Don’t worry, it’ll be higher as the ACA kicks in at full swing.

But just recently, Odip$hit is now forcing companies, under penalty of fines, to not fire anyone due to Odumbocare. So feel free to surcharge away, I guess.
