Received by email:B'nai Brith Canada has learned from Canadian Jewish tourists aboard a Norwegian Jade cruise ship that Israeli tourists have been denied the right to disembark when the ship dropped anchor at the Port of Tunis, Tunisia. As passengers began preparations to visit the country, Israelis on board were quietly told that they were not welcomed by the Tunisian Government and would have to remain onboard.Aren't you glad that there was an Arab spring so that all the Muslim countries get self-determination?
According to some Jewish passengers no prior notice was issued, either in writing or by public announcement. The cruise line also failed to advise passengers in advance that Israeli tourists would be confined to the ship when arriving at the Tunisian port. Other Jews aboard were unaware that their coreligionists were being detained and were outraged when news of the incident spread.
According to B'nai Brith Canada's CEO, Frank Dimant, "The cruise line has a responsibility to it's passengers to advise them of this discriminatory policy in advance. Better still the cruise line should avoid ports that have such policies. "
Labels: Jews, Muslim anti-Semitism, Tunisia
Nothing has changed, except maybe it is all getting worse. Especially with the USA “leadership” being recognized by all as a Israel-hating, pro-Muslim group.
These tourists have no gripe. People really should read the fine print sometime when they sign on for a cruise.
Sad.
Also frightening for the other Jewish travelers who could have been tricked into giving away their identity and murdered.
Imagine you are in a Tunisian souk. You hear the Shma. YOU WOULD TURN TO SEE. A non Jew would not. They could pick out Jews this way, and later murder them.
Was there any fine print covering the Cruise that was wrecked near Gibralter and laid there for a year?
I was on a cruise a few years back where a lady had to be helicoptered out. It isn't a dsicussion. If the cruiser doesn't have cruise insurance with them it ends up on your ship bill and if you don't pay by check it's charged to ones credit card.
So, even if you have insurance that will eventually pay it (questionable) it sits on your credit card, you paying interest, until the insurance company comes through.
Moral....get their insurance.
Think if something bad had happened and the tourists sued the cruise line for negligence for letting them into the country.
This type of discrimination is unacceptable
Israelis should have the same right to travel as anyone else
Wonder how much US taxpayer money the Tunisians get every year
As a Jew I would not want to spend money in a country not friendly to Jews from any country.
Most cruise lines use Israeli security and tactics ..
Precisely. I think I would do just the tiniest bit of background work to determine if an American was welcomed or not in the ports of call on my itinerary. The article is too hard on the cruise line, in my opinion.
