Ex-Bush admin official: Internet giveaway weakens cybersecurity, opens door to Web tax

The U.S. government’s plan to give away authority over the Internet’s core architecture to the “global Internet community” could endanger the security of both the Internet and the U.S. — and open the door to a global tax on Web use.

“U.S. management of the internet has been exemplary and there is no reason to give this away — especially in return for nothing,” former Bush administration State Department senior advisor Christian Whiton told The Daily Caller. “This is the Obama equivalent of Carter’s decision to give away the Panama Canal — only with possibly much worse consequences.”

The U.S. Commerce Department announced late Friday it would relinquish control of The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) — the organization charged with managing domain names, assigning Internet protocol addresses and other crucial Web functions — after its current contract expires next year...

This issue is the mother-of-all-gifthorses to Republicans. They can use it to slam Obama for destroying the freedom of the Internet and raising the specter of user fees.

They could, but they probably won’t. The Stupid Party has a well earned moniker.

No kidding.
That's what prompted me to write this brochure:

This issue is a point for the GOP to come out strongly, universally opposed to, and go to bat for right away.

No!

Leave the internet alone.

This brain fart is in a category with Jimmah Carter’s stupid and traitorous giving away of the Panama Canal.

Precisely. This is the commies ultimate dream come true; the end of free speech and total control of news content. They already control the MSM television and newspaper outlets which are “encouraged” to self-censor. The same standard will be applied to internet information/news services through the application of some form of a “fairness doctrine”.

But wait, there’s more. Every computer connected to and active on the internet, yours and mine, is connected to a unique IP address. Every IP address either is, (in the case of a smart phone) or can be tied to a unique telephone number identifier that is listed to the computer’s user.

This will cement the commies dream of ending anonymity on the Internet which is a disease slowly spreading through MSM outlets that now require commenters log in using a “verified” Facebook account. In order to have a verified Facebook account, the holder of such account is required to identify themselves/verify they are the account user by giving up their telephone number to Facebook. Only those who are comfortably “one with the Borg” now comment on Liberal/Commie/Progressive internet news/propaganda outlets like Huffington Post, Dallas Morning News, LA Times, etc. This device allows the elites to ensure that there is no exchange of competing ideas on the internet, but rather, only those who intone the propaganda speak to one another and broadcast their ideas on the Internet.

If outlets like Free Republic are even around after 2016, I’ll be quite surprised. Or they may be around, but comment won’t be anonymous and use, including just reading, won’t be free of the Internet access tax to be paid to the UN.

Anything that can be taxed can be destroyed.

Watch the MSM come out and say what a wonderful thing this is.

This is something liberals should be outraged about, but they are so stupid.

“They could, but they probably won’t. The Stupid Party has a well earned moniker.”

The Republicans cherry pick a couple of backwater, nebulous issues and ride them like a dead horse. They don’t bring up the real stuff and there is no ferocity in their campaigns. If it’s a real issue that could hurt the Democrats, the GOP focuses on the wrong parts of the thing and turns it into a loser.

The GOP are the enablers of the Democrats. They don’t exist to win, and when they do, the liberals merrily continue their destruction of society, as in Bush giving us No Child Left Behind, Homeland Security and TSA.

This can’t be by accident.

Is there an alternative to the internet?
