well as a guy from NYC I can tell you this, originally I am from Brooklyn, but live in Manhattan since 1989/1990. I didn't even know there was a gay parade till I got to Manhattan, because people in Brooklyn do not bother with gay pride etc etc. I see the usual police barracades along Fifth Ave whenever there is a parade, and I asked some cop--what's the parade? He said GAY PRIDE I said "Oh they have one too?" Being I never saw it before--it was led by a group of the ugliest mannish bull dykes I ever laid eyes on--Dykes on Bykes-with their leathery breasts exposed. Back in 1990 the gay marriage issue wasn't front and center--people were still dealing with AIDS. But the vast amount of the parade was a lot of people shaking their butts and their junk and quite a bit of simulating the sex act. Actually at one point maybe in 1990 and definitely before they let NAMBLA march as a group--the dudes that want to have sex with kids. YIKES--I am glad that became so controversial that many gays said it was over the top. Big friggin deal--so one likes to have sex with their own gender--do they need a parade for that. I advocate a beer drinkers parade or a chocolate lovers parade---why not?
