Onward Christian...protesters
The Thanks Project ^ | 3/19/2014 | Steve Berman

Posted on 03/20/2014 5:35:24 AM PDT by lifeofgrace

On Monday, March 10, the band Switchfoot performed in Baton Rouge, at the Varsity Theater. Members of Consuming Fire, led by street evangelist Chris LePelley, protested the concert. They stood with megaphones and shouted things like "there won’t be Switchfoot [music] in hell, just Switchfoot fans."

If you're not a fan, Switchfoot is a rock band. Some of their albums have done well in Christian radio, and have themes related to God. They do not promote themselves as a "Christian band."

The Varsity Theatre is hardly a church, it's a club. They don't serve communion there, in fact, they might even serve--gasp--alcohol.

The reason for the protest is that Switchfoot is "mixing rock and roll with Christian lyrics."

Huh?

I'll say it again in another way: these protesters are protesting a rock band whose members are professing Christians because their lyrics are "too Christian".

I mean what else would these people protest? How about Johnny Cash? Elvis Presley? U2? Peter Gabriel? These were/are all Christians who perform rock and roll. Elvis sang a lot of Gospel songs. Just about every U2 song is about God. Johnny Cash practically gave an altar call during concerts. What kind of nonsense is this?

Just clicked on Elvis. Will save this link and share with pastors and youth pastors. Blasphemy coming right out of their own mouths. Reminds me of how at our county fairs of yesteryear country western singers would belt out “tears in my beers” and “your cheatin’ heart” and then end the show with a hymn.

These artists are so misguided. Anyone who is a fan of any of these individuals would have to have a self-reflection moment. God is on the throne. How much more can He stomach of this stuff and our turning our backs on Israel.

During your ten days on Free Republic, you’ve blessed us
with seven blog pieces, all excerpted and all from the same source.

http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:lifeofgrace/index?tab=articles

From those facts we can determine that this is your blog
and that you are excerpting it here in order to get hits.

You are using Free Republic as an advertising tool for your blog.

That sucks.

First of all...what does it matter if I post the stuff I write to my personal blog, which generates zero advertising (has no ads in fact), and generates zero revenue for me.

I use the blog redirects so I can see which articles are generating interest, and which articles are not.

If I posted the text of the stuff I write instead of the excerpt, but kept the link, would that be better? I mean, why does it suck? What harm am I doing?

If I am violating some policy of freerepublic.com then tell me and I’ll comply. Geez, some people can’t be pleased.

See this post by the owner:

The salient point:

“I have no complaint if a good conservative blogger posts his own material to FR, not as an excerpt to drive hits and discussion back to his blog, but rather to impart useful information to OUR readers and to promote and join in on the discussion and conservative activism HERE on FR.

If a blogger can’t or refuses do that, and if he constantly complains or fights with our participants over it, then I’d just as soon he doesn’t post here. It’s not my job to make his content or his presentation or cooperation acceptable to our readers. That’s his job. And if he cannot do it or refuses to do it and continues posting brief excerpts only and obviously attempting to draw away our participants while loudly complaining about it, then I have no sympathy for his complaints and the more apt I am to ban his account and blog.”

Thanks for the enlightenment. Apparently you are the appointed police of this practice since it was never brought to my attention before.

I am not loudly complaining. I use my blog site to measure interest.

I’ll post the whole article from now on for your reading pleasure.

Or are you saying I should just not post at all regardless of whether I post all the text because you don’t like what I write? We all have our own opinions.

"I use the blog redirects so I can see which articles are generating interest, and which articles are not."

That's a legitimate concern and it's one that the management at FreeRepublic has already addressed. If you look at the "Forum" page you will see a selection that offers "Articles" "Activity" & "Comments." Click on the "Articles."

If you look next to each title listed, you will find a "hit counter" that shows how much reply traffic each piece is getting. It's not exactly the same as "views" but it's a good indicator of interest.

You will also find that among the Blog articles, the ones with full content and interaction by their authors tend to get the best response. If you follow the spirit of JimRob's guidelines and get involved with the commentary after posting your full content, you'll have no trouble getting a good feel for what topics are generating the most interest.

Good luck!

My articles tend to be too long to post in their entirety, so I have to use excerpts.

"My articles tend to be too long to post in their entirety, so I have to use excerpts."

Are they shorter at your blog site than they are when posted here?
