Don’t think our skinny tired aluminum frame road bikes would qualify. Light as hell they are, but only good for the smoothest of roads.

Our skinny tired road bikes can do a lot more than most people think.

Last year I ran into some friends at a coffee stop 15 miles into my road ride. They were on cross and MTB’s and we’re going to ride the rail trail on a 70 mile out and back. I figured I would go along and the only problem was them keeping up with me. No flats. No mech failures. 100 miles at the end of the day. The only thing the bike needed was a good cleaning.

I’ve thought about how things might go down if TSHTF and for about the first month, I’ll stick with the big 8 cyl 4x4 pickup. After that, my 29’er hard tail MTB. If I have to bug out of town it will be on my cross bike with panniers.

Remember. In the end, training is the most important thing. Get out and do it while you can. Forcing your body to suffer builds tolerance and discipline.
