On Monday, Governor Heineman released his newest column warning Nebraskan's of current efforts in Nebraska's Legislature to silence the voice of Nebraskans on future Presidential races.

The Bill, LB1058 (sponsored by Republican State Senator Tyson Larson who made it his priority bill is also now cosponsored by liberal Democrat Sen. Ken Haar ). The bill is being pushed by highly paid lobbyists (noted below). The bill proposes that Nebraska join the National Popular Vote Compact, in essence promising all five of Nebraska's electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote (even if that candidate didn't win in Nebraska).

I’ve typed 4 different responses to this, and deleted all 4 of them. They were all wordy versions of the following:

Just as misguided state lawmakers ratified the ill-conceived 16th Amendment in 1913 to give general voters the power to vote for federal Senator, the Progressive Movement is now trying to get rid of the electoral college.

This is because, as a consequence of parents not making sure that their children are being taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers, corrupt Congress is getting away with usurping 10th Amendment protected state powers and essentially stealing state revenues associated with those powers in the form of constitutionally indefensible federal taxes.

In fact, Justice John Marshall had officially clarified that Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue which Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

So what corrupt federal politicians are actually doing is following the tsunami of illegal federal taxes to DC imo.

Mea Culpa!

I refered to the 16th Amendment in post 3 when I meant the 17th Amendment.

Boy that will make Nebraska even more irrelevant on the national stage than it already is if they pass that abomination...

The Left has done a fine job of selling the snake-oil of democracy. Most Americans think democracy is the very purpose of government.

I really thought the people of Nebraska had the common sense to see through a maneuver to circumvent to US Constitution... this truly is on par with the shameful adoption of 17A.
