Either we go back to the state legislatures nominating senators, or we limit them to one single six-year term.

Senators have a 6 year term limit now, the people just aren't engaged and informed enough to implement it. Otherwise, agree. The Senators now represent the parties instead of the states. Until/unless this is changed, I don't have a problem with money coming in from outside the states and influencing elections. I don't get to vote for or against McConnell or Reid. but they certainly influence my life, so I should get to influence whether they are elected or not.

Nope. They represent themselves. GOP Senators peel off to play for Team Dem all the time. GOP leadership doesn’t do a thing to keep them in the GOP column and allows mavericks free reign in the Senate.
