If this continues, we should also see a rise in salaries. The increase in women in the workforce has a correlation to the decrease in salaries as % of GDP.

With the high cost of child care and high marginal income tax rates it often makes economic sense for one of the parents to stay home. If a man stays home to take care of the kids employers don’t want to hire him later because he has a gap in his employment history. If the woman stays home to take care of the kids employers will hire her later because beiong a good mom is not stigmatised. I know guys who have had their careers ruined because they were good fathers and good husbands. You would think that most HR managers (who are mostly women) would be more understanding.
Ok. Where did you get the number that most of these ‘new’ stay at home moms were in fact married to the dad?
It wasn’t in the article. In fact, the article seemed to assiduously stay away from any sort of numbers like that.
True enough. I suspect most of the little boys in this article, being raised by ‘new’ stay at home moms, don’t have meaningful relationships with their biological fathers at all.
Ditto the daughters.

Well, considering the article was about stay at home MOM’s, I would think she has a great deal of interaction with ‘men’ in her life. Sadly none of them are likely to be her husband or even the father of her children.
One mother I was talking to said “I decided to call myself a stay at home Mom, because it sounded better than being unemployed for two years.”
Homeschooling is taking off, too. It seems to be a default that if you have more than two kids, home schooling is cheaper than private school. AND Mom can save on the logistics.
It's not specific to demographics and it should be.

Your more cynical than I. I have noticed more kids being pooped out in my area, Central NH, and terrorizing the local food mart, I always look at the ring finger.
The only thing I miss is a mom, like mine, beating manners into the kids.
I also notice a lot of fathers with their brats following the buy it or die shopping list, I have had experience in that.
These are interesting times, a curse.
My wife had our third child and is now staying home. Day care is too expensive.
My stay at home wife, doesn’t stay home. She takes the boys to school events for home-schoolers, shopping and other things. My wife might be working at home, she still works.
I live in the middle of Obama’s kids. Rings on ring fingers are like finding needles in a haystack.
Increasingly the lower class whites are following suit.

My own southern baptist church had a full on baby shower for one of these ‘oops’ babies. No father in the picture. It’s so commonplace now to have the babies and then, maybe, marry the dad it would never ‘do’ to only have baby showers for the married moms...
I am not a Baptist but I think that the ladies of Your Parish out to have words with your pastor.
The ladies of the church run such things. The pastor is married to one of them.
120 years ago one of my great great aunts got kicked out of her Southern Baptist church. For dancing at a Catholic wedding of family friends. She had to write a letter of apology to the church for her ‘unbecoming’ behavior and was on ‘probation’ for 6m before she became a full member of the congregation again.
We have the letter she got from the church informing her she was ‘kaputs’ and a letter from one of her aunts, a member of the same denomination in another town, chastising her and telling her she’d never find a decent husband if she continued to behave in such a manner.
Times. They have changed.
Possible reasons:
1) The culture has suddenly woken up, shifted into reverse, and we’re headed back to the 1950’s.
2) Big increase in single welfare moms who opt to sit home and watch Jerry Springer.
3) There are just no jobs.
Which one do YOU think is the least likely?
If I remember my Calvin and Luther a Pastor is a first among equals more educated but not set above the believers for any other reason.
If he is in error point it out and let him defend himself.

So many people are related to such goings on now it would ‘hurt too many feelings’ to exclude the illegetimate babies from baby showers. At least that was the excuse I heard when I asked if she was getting married.
I worked in a store that sold maternity quincinera dresses. Parse that for a moment. She’s pregnant enough on her FIFTEENTH birthday to need a special dress for that. Meaning she got pregnant sometime around 14.5yrs of age...
