Raise the import tariffs and lower the individual and corporate income taxes by an equal amount. This would:

• Restore American industry
• Put Americans back to work.
• Increase government revenues as people went back to work.
• Decrease government outlays as people come off of support payments.
• Decrease the budget deficit
• Decrease the Federal Debt
• Decrease dependency on government
• Decrease dependency on foreign nations.
• Make America better able to defend itself.

I think the biggest problem today w/ the government is corruption — this is a direct result of a large government, were we to cut [federal] government size, scope, and power (while punishing those government agents/agencies that are corrupt) things would quickly get better.
