RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Rains County Sheriff's deputy who shot a dog after responding to a burglary call on Friday has been fired.

According to the Rains County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Jerrod Dooley was fired on Thursday. Sheriff David Traylor said that it was for Dooley's safety because of threats. He added that it is the safest move for the department and the deputy.

A resume enhancer when he goes for his next job as a “LEO.” He’s already confirmed as a pet killer.

Not too likely that he will be rehired.

The town where this happened is pretty small and it would be noticed.

The county sheriff is elected, not hired, so he could lose his job at election time by rehiring him.

The internet is full of those lists.

Here are just a few;

Now I see why the freak state hardly ever has this happen.

Seems cops shot a mayor’s dogs during a ‘wrong address’ raid.

There’s lots of cops running around out there who “feel threatened” quite often.

Not sure when cops became such candy asses.

He may have been a civilian always [and several other c words] but now he’s a civilian ~without~ the blind loyalty support of the force backing up everything he does.

In the latest development, he has now lawyered up and claims he shot the dog due to ‘lack of training’.

Yes, that’s right.

Now, *he* is the real victim.

I hope what he started snowballs until he is crushed under the weight of it.

This joker was on the news last night crying and sobbing. It was ridiculous, imho.

He probably lawyered up because he is facing animal cruelty charges.

Like you, I hope this does start a beginning of the end of what seems to be an expanding habit being developed by some LE...killing people’s pets for no dang reason.

You’re welcome.

You’re not gonna believe this pet/cop story.

Gee, really?
His poor little conscience. /s

If the “remorse” becomes unbearable, he can always take the honorable route.

I personally think this might cause an upswing of rage killings by cops.

Bet you lots of them are livid the guy got fired.

They don’t handle anger very well.

Rather than waste my money on lawyers, if I were him, I’d be working on a new identity and plastic surgery.

“We’re from the government and we’re here to help.”

I work with dogs. I’m having trouble imagining any scenario where it would be physically possible to shoot a dog in the back of the head who was “about to bite” the shooter.

Someone help me out here? I’m missing something, surely.

Well, I hope your prediction doesn’t come true re: rage killings and lividiscity.

His money might be better spent on relocation for him and his son. These small towns don’t forgive easily..if ever. From what I have read the dog owner (and his family) is a long time resident. I don’t know about the deputy.

I so want to move to Texas!

I begged and pleaded with him to please shoot her again because I don’t have any firearms. They got stolen.

That's what I would say too.

I have written on FR many times my contempt for cops rolling up on situations, shooting first and asking questions later, often with completely innocent people, and dogs, ending up dead! Consistently, I have written that this shoot first phenom is, I believe, a matter of moronic training and policy. Meaning, the cops are “seemingly” taught/trained that “shooting first and letting God sort it out” is a pretty okey dokey department policy. Incredibly too, some Chiefs of Police/Sheriff’s back em up after a shooting. And, we see this okey dokey shoot first policy about, it seems, every week.

But, in this case, this Sheriff did exactly the right thing and fired the dummy retard almost immediately. So, I cannot agree with those well intended freepers, mad about the dog, who would fire the Sheriff if they could. Texas Sheriff’s, generally speaking, are a pretty darn good group of folks and all powerful in each of 254 counties. Us Conservatives are going to need them in the coming National melt down.

Now, if evidence surfaces that Sheriff Traylor participated in covering ANYTHING up, or it was “his policy” to shoot dogs inappropriately, then he should be fired. Before some freeper writes “what does “inappropriately” mean in the context I used it, it means that there are very few situations in my opinion where a cop should shoot a dog. Indeed, as this deputy is finding out, it is very much in their personal interest to take a little heat from a dog rather than shoot him as consequences for the deputy can be sever.

So, in my humble opinion, cops need some retraining on when they can shoot people AND dogs.

Chances are if the dumb beyond belief deputy had not shot the dog, the dog would be alive and dumbo would still be a deputy and not hurt. But, “dumb” took over and “training” didn’t step in that instant and stop him so he shot the dog. Now his LIFE is f’d up, real bad. There is absolutely no question he will have to move not only from that town but from Texas. I recommend California where he can hide anonymously amongst fellow like minded idiots.

My theory is some, not all, police and other LEO’s have a nice shiny gun and they can’t shoot a civilian. They need to practice shooting, ya know - sarc off -
