I suggested that "contact info" was part of the goods he sent to his parents which included his computer. In one note he said there is stuff in the boxes for you, "Use them".

Then he laid down his arms and uniform and walked off the base.

Interesting thought.

As a pure hypothetical, with no evidence for it whatsoever, you can fit a lot of information on an SD card. Those fit both snugly and pretty much undetectably under a unit patch or a flag patch - say on a uniform that is being sent home? Or tucked into the spine of a book, perchance?

Just spitballing here. Something that is worth considering and nice catch on it.

That would mean that he had contact info for the Taliban before he left his post. Doubtful. He must have had more than one uniform too because he is in his uniform in one of the Taliban propaganda videos from after he deserted.
