Read between the lines:
1. Mosul (in northern Iraq, near Syria) has fallen to al qaida.
2. The Kurds will not lose their economic interests easily and will draw a line just south of their oil pipeline to Turkey. Then they will strike a deal with AQ that will basically say, “you stay on your side, and we’ll stay on ours” leaving the Sunni triangle and Tikrit to AQ.
3. AQ just got ALL of the military equipment the Iraqis had, that we gave them, in Mosul. That will include helos, aircraft, armored vehicles, tanks, humvees, mortars, small arms, night vision devices and artillery. Everything from fighter jets to body armor. They should be able to equip at least a couple battalions with that stuff. But they don’t have spare parts or ammunition resupply for the big things.
4. AQ just got a LOT more combat capable.
Hopefully the Iraqis weren’t storing any anti-aircraft missiles at their garrisons in Mosul. What am I thinking? Of course they were...
Plus a Biden bonus.
The country is going to be divided into Kurds, Sunni, and Shiite.
But they have now looted some $400 million from banks in Mosul. Lots of things can be had with that kind of money.
