Exercising the power of the purse

“No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.”—

U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 9, clause 7

Our nation’s founders provided Congress with the ultimate tool to rein in an out of control Executive Branch by vesting the power of the purse with Congress.

IIRC, the pretender and his minions have already promulgated a policy to pay ‘prior approved’ expenditures (the welfare state support payments, etc.) in the event the Congress cuts funding. We saw part of it with the (wonderful) gubmint shutdown, not so long ago.

The notion that the Congress holds the purse strings is valid and viable only if they are willing to make use of it, AND take up the ensuing battle to reclaim this Constitutional authority.
