They need to prove that this ‘crash’ occurred. Absent that, the messages were deleted.
This is destruction of evidence. Evidence which Congress subpoenaed. Congress has imprisoned people for exactly this crime.
I imagine a systems auditor who was even halfway competent could find out exactly what happened.
