There was a time when I used to listen to Contemporary Christian music. I often found the tunes catchy, and some of the singers were talented. I eventually got burnt out on the lack of substance in the contemporary Christian ‘message’. Now if I listen to Christian music, it is written by Bach or Handel. I am not surprised that these singers have turned out to be frauds.

having been around Amy Grant and CCM since the ‘70’s, I know too well the falseness that she and others exhibit as opposed to the clear teachings of the Bible. Back in the 80’s it saddened me that her interview with a leading worldly magazine for women, she had to snicker snicker talk about her use of F-bombs and running down the beach in Southern California topless - ‘free and easy’. The sadness was a. for her misguidedness and b. for the millions of weak Christians that would see her as an ‘example’.

I always think of the verse in Revelation “and they overcame him with the Blood of the Lamb and THE WORD OF THEIR TESTIMONY”. The older I get the more I realize the responsibility I have of the second part of that verse.

Certainly Grant and the Jars Of Clay guy have lost their way.

This article was good and informative until the writer got into the Catholic-bashing.

She wasn't "catholic bashing." She was simply telling the truth.

Yeah - I hear you. After the ‘80’s I got so turned off by the formulaic proliferation - just get a cute face to sing about Jesus and all is good.

I’ve paid attention again in the past 5 years - my faith restored with groups like Casting Crowns, Mercy Me.

:: Reformer Martin Luther made it clear what Protestants must believe about the Roman Catholic Church:
What kind of a church is the pope’s church?” asked Martin Luther. “It is an uncertain, vacillating and tottering church. Indeed, it is a deceitful, lying church, doubting and unbelieving, without God’s Word. For the pope with his wrong keys teaches his church to doubt and to be uncertain.
If it is a vacillating church, then it is not the church of faith, for the latter is founded upon a rock, and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it (Matthew.16:18). If it is not the church of faith, then it is not the Christian church, but it must be an unchristian, anti-Christian, and faithless church which destroys and ruins the real, holy, Christian church.3 (H/T Ken Silva)
It doesn’t require a degree in theology to know that the Roman Catholic Church has for centuries been spreading a false gospel, a gospel that does not save and intends to keep men blinded from the truth. (2 Corinthians 4:4). ::

Why does THE MEDIA convolute Martin’s teachings??? The Roman church is populated with faithful XPians. The Lutheran Church is populated with faithful XPians. BOTH have faithless, too.

This can be so tiresome!

Well, I think Amy went off the rails as a Christian performer when she divorced her husband and married Vince Gill.

Camel nose in the tent.

“As a married person myself,” she chirped, “I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry the camel I love, and want to marry. I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the camels that we want to love.” Underwood also noted that she attends a animal-friendly church.

Ya, he’s dead wrong there.

I’ll just stick to my bible, I don’t get too wrapped up from what some individuals say.

I wouldn’t call it so much as Catholic bashing, as just truth.

That said, I think there are many Catholics who are Christian that don’t follow Rome’s teachings.

If you haven’t, check out a few other bands like Leeland, The Glorious Unseen and Hillsong United.

There’s a lot I don’t like about the Catholic church, including the wacky socialist pope, but at least it’s strong against abortion and strong for traditional marriage.

We need all the allies we can get in the culture war.

“After the ‘80’s I got so turned off by the formulaic proliferation - just get a cute face to sing about Jesus and all is good.”

There was a thread that touched on this earlier today. Back in the day a guy once told me that the PDs for contemporary Christian radio used to judge songs on ‘JPMs.’ That’s ‘Jesus per minute’ as in how many times the word ‘Jesus’ is used in a minute. Songs with high JPMs got more airplay because they needed to let their audience know as soon as possible that it’s the place on the dial they are looking for. Supposedly the music was so bad that unless you had high JMPs everyone would just flip past. So the acts played along, and started writing songs that had maximum JPMs, and of course the songs suffered for it.

What’s He doing to stop homosexual “merging”?

The young have been brainwashed and it is getting worse. Look at Obama and how he promotes homosexuality. Look at schools and TV and books and movies. It isn’t easy to convince kids that they are all wrong and God is still right.
