He didn’t even TRY to throw conservatives a bone. Because he thought he wouldn’t need them. He thought that the independents and democrats would flood to his moderation, his “pragmatic” republicanism. The problem with this theory is that independents and democrats vote for...democrats. Because most of the independents used to be democrats who changed their registrations to impress people and so they can vote in republican primaries. That’s how we get the likes of Gabriel Gomez and Charlie Baker.

I think independents are republicans who register as independent so they won’t get fired from their jobs.

Dems are ruthless about that, repubs, not really.

The republicans easily won independents in 2012.

Independent simply means they don't belong to a party, other than that you have no idea what an independents politics are, it can be hard right, hard left, or variations of the middle, or whatever they are to that individual.
