The opening story I quoted was word for word identical to an actual story at Space.com written about two months ago in describing the very first Earth sized planet ever discovered that included the details about "there may be water on it, but then again there may not be". The exoplanets are much too far away to make out any surface details.

The way they discover exo-planets is by observing how long the the light of a distant star is obscured by some seeming orbiting planet. I would ordinarily send a link to a story like that but why make you look even stupider than you already are by sending you the article I quoted that you mocked like the dimwit you are?
